2017 Exhaust Muffler Compatibility; how to discern what fits?

Purchased a trike with an aftermarket exhaust, now trying to convert back to OEM. The BRP parts link doesn't help much. I see an OEM number of 707601732, now superseded by 219800442. I also see tons of what folks ID as "F3T" mufflers out there, but many with what appear to be random part numbers without good cross referencing (or even part number recognition) on the BRP parts site. Some have what appears to be a side entry and some an end entry (pics below). Rubber mount and bolts too, etc.

Anyone have a 2017 F3T willing to post an image of your muffler or maybe ID one of the two below (end or side entry)? Do most of these F3T mufflers fit up and have just cosmetic differences, or is there just a bunch of variations through the years which make it year specific?

I am not sure, but that actually looks shorter than what is on my F3L (same for F3T). It looks more like the one that is on the F3S or the standard F3 series. This looks a little short for the F3T. Maybe someone else can chime in. I wish I had the stock F3S muffler on my F3L. I love the sound a lot better.

That's the first time I've ever seen a side-entry muffler for a Spyder

According to my part list, the F3-T only came with 1 muffler - 219800442. It's called a 'kit' 'coz it comes with heat shields & screws etc. & is a long, end-entry muffler as shown in your first pic.

Again, according to my parts list the F3-S can come with 2 different mufflers. 1).. The same 219800442 long, end-entry as the F3-T or 2).. 707602475 (again, a kit) that is shorter & side-entry like your second pic.

My parts list makes a comment of 'except Australia' (where I am) against the 707602475, which agrees with the 'local legend' that Australian F3-S models all came with the longer muffler to comply with our local noise regulations. My F3-S has a long, end-entry muffler.

It's also worth noting that the muffler hanger is different for each muffler too.

Hope this helps a little.

We've owned 2015 F3-S, 2018 F3-T and L, and 2023 F3-L SS models. And in the USA. All of them have had side entry Secondary Muffler designs: that is, the Primary Muffler/Catalytic Converter exits with the spherical coupler toward the right side of the machine. ALL F3 muffler designs attach to this spherical coupler. There is a major difference between the S and T/L secondary mufflers: the inlet on the S comes into the side of the secondary muffler while the T/L come in via a 90 bend in the inlet tube/front to the muffler. And the T/L Secondary Mufflers are longer, positioning the exhaust discharge more toward the rear of the F3.

On my F3-S models, I could smell exhaust fumes on my clothing after a ride. That doesn't happen on our T/L models. Presumably, dependent on the wind direction, there is some swirling/vortexing of the exhaust on the S models.

There have been design changes on the Primary Muffler over the years, but they still attach to the header pipe and Secondary Muffler in the same positions. There are significant mounting differences between the S and T/L model Secondary Muffler, where they are not readily interchangeable: one would need to bolt on the correct mounting plates on the machine.

The above stated, we have an Akropovic (titanium) secondary muffler from an older 990 engine with an adapter pipe to attach to the F3-L header pipe.

Fabulous feedback. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

....

I believe that, due to our Ozzie ADR Noise Restriction requirements, all Oz Spec F3's, regardless of them being an F3-S or an F3-T/L, come with the same longer 'end entry' mufflers that the North American F3-T/L's run over there. Unless my forgettory is working over-time, the T/L and all Oz Spec mufflers have the 'bolt on' mountings shown in the first pic of the Opening Post, which are somewhat different to the two pronged mounting points on the short muffler you see in the second pic, where those two prongs slide into the rubber capped ends of the tubular frame about where the passenger foot peg is. ;)

However, there were a few early F3's here that managed to score the optional shorter 'end entry' mufflers that were around for a while back when the F3 model first hit the streets, but only as somewhat questionable 'after market options'. I know the local dealer at the time here in South Oz bought in a bunch of the sportier & shorter 'optional' end entry mufflers from North America with similar two pronged mounts, only to discover they weren't legally allowed to fit them here &/or sell them on any F3's they sold at the risk of heavy penalties. 😣 So they didn't sell them as 'options' on new F3's, but I know a few people who bought them separately and then fitted them later... altho the different mounting methods did cause some difficulties.

Wow. I'd think with all the open spaces in Oz, exhaust noise would be pretty much a non-issue.
Fortunately, we're still a free country here in America, for now. ;)

Over 80% of our population lives within 60 miles of the coast...

Now admittedly, here in Oz we do live on an Island/Continent that has close to 16,000 miles of coastline vs the USA's 12,400 miles or there-abouts; but then, our population, at just a tad over 26,600,000, is less than one tenth that of the USA that comes in at about 335,000,000 and we have a population density of about 3.4 inhabitants per squ km vs your 35.2 - so yeah, we've got LOTS of under utilised living and riding space!! 😁

All that said, and I've said this before on this Forum and others, there's no denying that Australia IS one of the most over-legislated countries in the World today! 😖 That doesn't mean we're not 'free' - just over-legislated... :cautious:

BUT, to temper that juuust a little when it comes to quality of life, amongst other things, we do arguably have better political stability, Civil Rights, health, and climate to those you enjoy over there in the US of A... Oh, and we generally live a bit longer too! :) So I'll still choose to live here any day - and I don't see that changing soon either, noise regs or not! ;)
