• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Random thought for the day

I copied this from Arthur C Clarke quotes in a book. Now that it is already posted, I am going to disagree with what he said. Just because he is a genius don't mean he can't make mistakes. The butterfly could fly just as well without the patterns, that much I agree with, but the butterfly might not be around to try to fly. The patterns on the wings of butterflies help them identify prospective mates that are members of the same species. Each species of butterfly has certain plants or trees they feed on the flowers of. They could not survive and reproduce without being able to identify other members of their species. Some species of butterflies feed on plant nectar which makes them unpalatable to birds or other predators. Those butterflies have specific colors or markings on their wings, and the predators avoid them. Then other butterflies, not of the nasty tasting species, have developed markings similar to them in order to avoid being eaten. Many plants and animals use this defence. They are known as mimics. This is why I disagree with the genius, and there ain't nothing he can do about it, since he died in 2008. Therefore, since he was wrong about the pattern on the wings of butterflies and had used that to support his statement that the Universe had no interest in intelligence or life, that throws a monkey wrench in his whole theory about what the universe has an interest in, and that life and intelligence are accidental by products.

Case closed, Sir Arthur C.

Ahh, but he didn't say 'they ARE accidental by-products...', he said "Both MAY BE accidental by-products..."!! ;)

So while his comment might look like it's a 'definitive statement of belief' I believe that it was actually intended to be more 'thought & discussion provoking' than any 'Final Word' to the World about this subject... And it made you (and me...) think about it, didn't it?!

Yes, he did leave himself a crack to slip through. It is true that I can't possibly know what was in his mind when he wrote that. He was very well educated, and he did read every book he could get his hands on. Maybe he left it as a challenge to think about.

I could also say I posted up there to make the rest of you think about it, but that would not be true. I am not very educated, but I was born and raised on a farm and I do know some things about how plants and animals reproduce.

Only one choice at our house. Take it and be thankful. And... You'll sit there until your plate is clean!!!

That just did not work at our house. I would have sat there to keep from going back to the field and working in the hot sun. We were never forced to eat anything, and anybody that tried to force me would not have succeeded. There was food outside, practically all over the farm and I knew I could always find something to eat. I can still find food everywhere.

My "random thought" today is about this forum....

Still learning my way around the forum, and still getting used to the strange new three-wheeled creature in my garage, but amazed at all the useful info I'm finding as I ramble through the various threads here.

I scoped out a couple of other Spyder forums but figured this one was probably the first, and might have the most knowledgeable members. So far I'd say that's probably so, because I've learned all kinds of things I never expected. And this after 55 years of bikes already!

Anyway, my thanks to the mod team and all those who have contributed their insights and know-how here. I hope to chip in more myself as time allows, and once I can get back on said creature and get back to learning more - after the snow and salt and gravel are gone. Hoping for spring soon...
