• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2019 RT brake pedal still travels too far with new front pads installed. How do I get it back to normal?

I put new pads on the front of my 2019 RT LTD and the brake pedal still travels too far. What do I need to do to get the travel back to original?

If the system wasn't open, I would guess that after the hardware/paint backing compresses and the pads wear into the concave rotor surface, things would be back to normal.

I'd flush the brake system w/ DOT5.1 fluid regardless, as it is recommended every 2 years.

Spyders use DOT4 fluid.

Flush and bleed your brake fluid. It's years overdue.

Thanks for the replys. I will install new rear pads and take it to the dealer for a flush. I understand it needs to be hooked up to the Buds system to do that properly.

If you can find somebody to help you or a place that will flush the brakes on your Spyder do that. Dealer stuck me for 3 hrs time to flush the brakes. Said it was a hard long job. $450. That's BS, they wont be doing that to me again. BUDS, like they have said up above, is for the ABS part. It's an easy job to flush the brakes for one person, or if a helper is there, it's even easier. And you'll save yourself a bunch of money.

As mentioned, you only need BUDS to cycle the ABS system. Not necessary in 99% of Spyders.

Don't use DOT 3 (not even sure you can still find it anyway). Dot 4 is fine. The brake systems on the Spyder don't typically get hot enough to warrant DOT 5.1, which is usually a bit more expensive. Though it certainly won't hurt and is compatible with the DOT 4 that's already in your system.

But whatever you do, DO NOT use DOT 5 which is a fully synthetic brake fluid and is not compatible with anything else. You would need to completely flush the entire system (BUDS Required) to convert to DOT 5 brake fluid. It is a bear to bleed as it loves to hold onto air bubbles. So much so that you must be careful how you pour it. Or wait a period of time after pouring to allow the air bubbles to come to the surface.

And there is more. So please! Just don't!

I ordered speed bleeders. There is still 3 feet of snow here so I am in no rush. Just itchy. I have done brake before and this sounds no different. Thanks.

Also keep in mind that changing the rear brake pads could very well make your pedal feel worse since you have introduced yet another set of multiple surfaces that will have to "wear in" to their happy place before the space is taken up.

Imagine your rotors are worn out of parallel (concave and/or tapered) and the pads will have to wear into that shape. Until that happens, everything will be "flexing" making the pedal spongy.

Rear pads are real pain in the butt to change! Done it once. Took a lot of effort and time.
