Can-Am dealers not hungry?

Hello all,

I contacted two dealers (one in-state and one out of state). No need to mention the dealer names; my intent is not to make anyone look bad. One dealer I have purchased a new bike from before so they know I have green money. I told both I was interested in a 2024 or 2025 Spyder RT STS. Spoke with one on the phone and one over text. One provided a quote after 1.5 weeks. One said they will work on a quote and get back to me ASAP. I offered a trade to the first and they were going to give me a value. I don't need to trade to make the purchase.

Both dealers have ghosted me. It seems in the dead of winter, a Can-Am dealer would want to sell a $30k unit. This does not bode well for after sales support. Should a customer be more aggressive or should the dealer have a higher sense of urgency? What gives? :dontknow:

If you want one bad enough, just beat the brush till you find one that wants to work with you!!! Other than that, you may have to drink the Kool aid! Sorry!!!:dontknow:

Don't go back to them, I had a dealer (JT Motorsport) ghost me from the start and it was one that was recommended through the can-am website. I was originally referred to them by Can-am as I was looking for a Ryker in Febuary of 2021.

Not afraid of calling them out as I will never ever use this dealership.

Nobody ever Called or Emailed as stated would happen in the Can-Am email, so I decided to go to JT as the Can Am email welcomed me to come in on my own.

I went to JT and there was only one Spyder an F3 LTD in the showroom; no Rykers, no RT's, no base F3's, or Sports, and most important of all, no salesperson to talk to.

I waited around for about 30 minutes and at times showing I was really interested in this machine by laying on the floor and looking up under it trying to hint to anyone at the store I was there to buy something.

Eventually 2 men who I assume were sales or some other type of employees walked by and said " you look good on it" chuckled and walked away behind the counter and started talking between themselves.

I finally found someone to talk to me about where any of the demos or floor models were, but they didn't know about it and said that they thought they were still in crates in the back. I just left at that point and went to Motomember; their sales team was great and was able to get me hooked up with my F3.

If you read the reviews on google, I'm not the only one this has happened to at JT. Their sales-people really don't like Spyder's or Spyder people, not too sure why they are even a Spyder dealership as they want nothing to do with them.

If they are doing this to you while attempting to throw your money at them just think what it would be like after they get it?

You may have to drive further like I do now. I go from Frederick, Md. up to Grantville, Pa. for Brooks Powersport. They have a great team and have always been able to assist me, and they appreciate their 3 wheeled customers.

Signs of the times. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Its certainly not limited to Can Am. A few years back I decided to buy a Goldwing. I went to a dealer that I had used for service on another Honda and had been pleased with them. They quoted me the full MSRP for a new Goldwing, tried to convince me that they literally make zero profit on the sale of a motorcycle, and then told me that they would not even consider taking my Triumph as a trade-in because "we are not a Triumph dealer". The next day I went to a Honda dealer a bit further from my home. They offered me 15% off the MSRP and top dollar for the Triumph as a trade-in. When I acted just a tad hesitant, they threw in some extras at no charge. Yet that first dealer is still in business and apparently doing well as I often see multiple cars parked in front of the showroom.

The dealer that I bought my RT at was great. My only complaint to date is with Can Am itself and how long it is taking for a part (waiting for about 10 weeks as of today).

I bought my Spyder from a dealership the same distance you travel and have been doing so since the BRP dealership five miles from my home with an excellent service department closed. (Their sales dept wouldn't cut a dime off MSRP when I was buying.) My latest service from them was having Tire Rack ship them my new Vredestein Quatrac front tires. They called when the tires arrived and I was at the shop door at opening time two days later and gone an hour and a half after I arrived. Great new tires and three hours of wind therapy. And the tech always gives me a complete rundown on how my Spyder is doing before I depart.

CloverHill - there is a great dealer in Hanover, PA - Motorsports Cycle Shop. Looks like only 40 miles or so from Frederick. I've used him a couple of times and he is 100 miles from me.

Don't forget about purchasing from a private party. There are many good deals on late model spyders if you search for them. Of course, it's currently wintertime but if I had to do it over again I'd find a good deal on 2nd hand spyder, fly there, buy it, and ride it home. Also, you can have it shipped to you and still save $$$$$. However, if you're not into doing that, you're leaving yourself to the mercy of a stealer, oops, I mean a dealer.

Dealerships don't like non-face-to-face contacts. They usually take time and don't pan out. Nor do they get a chance to phlim-flam the customer. They figure that if you're not willing to come in, then you're not serious. It's a fallacy, of course. But a common one. I'm sure they have charts, graphs, and algorithms that tell them it's usually a waste of their time. They are so busy helping customers and all.

The problem isn't restricted to Can-Am dealerships. I have a friend that went to a Ford dealership to buy a brand new F-250. He looked around on the lot until he found one he wanted. Employees saw him but none approached. He then went into the showroom and tried to look interested. Employees passed him by but again, no one engaged him. Finally, he left. Drove a few miles down the road and purchased his truck from a competitor.

He drove his new truck to the 1st dealership and parked it right outside the showroom. Went in, found the manager, pointed to his new F-250 with fresh paper dealer tags and explained how he'd come to them first but ended up purchasing from another dealership because no one seemed interested in selling him a vehicle.

I went with Lamont once to a big John Deere dealership here in East Tennessee. He wanted to buy a brand new, top of the line zero turn mower. We waited in the showroom for some time with employees milling in and out but no one spoke to us. There was another guy who had been waiting before we arrived and finally, Lamont asked him what he was there for and if anyone had helped him. The guy also was looking for a new lawn mower but no one had helped him either. The guy was getting pretty frustrated and finally left.

The whole time we could see a man in one of the sales cubicles doing paperwork. He could see us. But made no effort to engage. Lamont, being the 'Get-er-done' kind of guy and not shy either went into the doorway of his cubicle and asked what a man had to do to buy a lawn mower. Explaining what the guy already knew, that we'd been waiting for sometime already and mentioning that another guy already got fed up and left. The salesman looked like he didn't appreciate being disturbed and said, 'I'll get someone to help you'. Lamont said, 'Why can't you help me?'. Then, 'Don't bother. I know a place where they won't make me wait and they will be happy to sell me a mower.

And we did. The weirdest thing about it was that the salesmen didn't really seem to care that he'd lost 2 sales in a matter of 30 minutes or so. With a track record like that. How do you justify your job?

I can report the out-of-state dealer emailed me this evening which I appreciated. The email was relatively short indicating they did not need my trade. In all fairness, my trade is essentially a new motorcycle (<500 miles) and I don't blame them for not wanting to insult me with an unreasonable offer. Perhaps I'm feeling some pressure or guilt of having two toys and paying insurance/license/maintenance on two things and that is the motivation for trading. Either way, I left the door open for them as I consider my options. Unfortunately, I'm not independently wealthy and I'm a classic over-thinker. Maybe I need time to think.

My local dealer here in Chambersburg PA. has the 2025 S2S for $33,199, the 2024 S2S for $27,477, the 2023 S2S for $23,997 or 2023 demo with 386 miles for $22,997 and the 2022 S2S for $22,997.

CloverHillCrawler, Have you tried Motorsports INC in Hanover Pa. ? (about 45 min from Frederick)

I went there twice and both times it seemed like I was not welcome there. I don't know why but there was just an attitude I picked up on and I really wanted to go there as it had been recommended by several people in the DMV Spyder Ryders.

After the second time it happened I started using Brooks in Grantville, they are more welcoming and have helped me get things straightened out literally when my alignment was all borked by Motomember in Purcellville, Va. after they did the reframe of my F3.

If they don't get actual stock soon, that S2S will be $41,498 after the 25% tariff is applied.

When I said my local dealer has, I should of said has listed the 2025 S2S for """"" no one has the 2025 Spyders in stock that I know of, but if you order and pay for now the price will not change. and we all know there is no 25% now.

I just checked my dealer's websites (they have four locations).

They have no 2025s.

The location I bought from has four new 2024s - two Ryker Rallys, one F3-S and one F3-T.
Another location has one 2024 F3-S and one 2024 RT Limited.
The other two locations are showing no 2024s or 2025s.

When I bought my Spyder back in April there was a comment the sales manager made about them having trouble getting any new inventory from CAN-AM, and that all of their stock was either on the sales floor, or still in the shipping crates in their warehouse.

I really don't think the tariff is going to happen. I think it was a bargaining chip to get Canada's attention and make some changes. Which appears to already have been accomplished. One is simply leveraging the huge economic advantages our American market place affords us.

It's chess, not checkers...

Before I purchased my 2022 RT, I called 3 dealers to make an appointment... #1 told me to call back in a couple days, because I had a trade and the sales mgr was off a couple days... #2 I actually went to this dealer, only he was too busy answering complaints about why parts weren't in and never even gave me a quote. He said he should be getting something in about a week or so to stop back then... #3 told me to call back because he was busy right now... So, I said screw Can Am!

Then we went on vacation about 200 miles from home and just on a whim, I stopped in at a dealer. He couldn't do enough for me! He gave me what I wanted on trade sight unseen, and we worked out a price! I had to wait about 3 weeks for delivery. There were no games played, everything went as negotiated - the trade, everything. Since then, I have referred 3 people to them, each of whom purchased, and each time they called and thanked me. Last time I was there, they did my oil change for free.
