• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Front seat support piston failed again - I made a replacement rod!

The front seat support piston on my 2020 Spyder RT has failed for the second time.
With 28,000 miles on it, I'm pretty bummed at the pitiful performance of the stock support piston AND the McMaster-Carr replacement piston.

With no assurance that another piston will perform any longer, I made one from some dense fiberglass rods I have. (Of course, wooden dowels work too). The first photo shows the rod supporting the front seat while getting gas today. I put a little velcro around it to hold it in place under the seat when not in use.

The rod is 1/2" diameter and 5.2" long. I have about 20 of them if anybody wants one. For each of the 20 rods, they're free and I'll pay postage in ConUS, in hopes it helps others.
Please note: I'm not interested in selling these, and there are only 20 to give away. Thanks jb

This offer is withdrawn due to lack of interest, & I don't want to leave it hanging.

Great idea, and very generous, John……there are a few of us using struts, made from dowel, metal etc. Mine is an old 6” hex wrench that sits in my glove box. I also disconnected my cable from the seat lock, so there is never a question of whether I will be able to fill up when needed. Some say… "but… but… but… someone can lift your seat and syphon your tank!" That is certainly not on MY list of “losing sleep” concerns. :roflblack:

Great offer John. My 2020 RTL front seat shock also failed, twice, including the the warranty replacement. I finally jury rigged mine as well. After rethinking that I might want to sell it some day, I bit the silver bullet and installed an after market. What can I say, BRP had a boat load of defective front seat shocks?

Thank you John for a most generous offer. I fixed my seat by ordering a heavier duty shock from McMaster Carr. It works great even with the back rest and the heavier custom seat. No I don't remember the #, that was 5 years ago, and I didn't keep a record. Search the archives, that is where I found the original information. Or be one of the 1st twenty to contact John.
