Hmm, once again they wait until the interest generated by the last announcement starts to die down, then they trot it out again and give it another beating!! :bdh: Haven't they ever heard the story about the boy who cried 'Wolf' too often?? :banghead:

The last announcement was not that long ago (see the link below, and my post #9 in that for just a few of the earlier 'imminent arrival announcements' ), but I reckon we've been seeing 'announcements' like this about electric Can Ams &/or Spyders for more than 10 years now, so while the link does seem to suggest they might be a wee tad further along than they were 10 &/or even 2 years ago, I really wouldn't hold your breath!! :lecturef_smilie:

BRP's marketing guys haven't worked out that, as in so many other things, it's "far better to under-promise and over-deliver, than it is to over-promise and under-deliver!!" :banghead: . Doing the former makes you look incompetent (or worse! :p ) when you fail to meet a deadline or produce what you've promised, embarrassing yourself and your organisation on sooo many levels :opps: - and it's SOOO MUCH WORSE when they REPEATEDLY do the same thing, year after year, like this mob does - did I say REPEATEDLY?? :yikes:  :cus:

It's sporting a rotax electric motor, interesting.

Not enough interest to buy one but I will be keeping my eye on it to see what people say about it once they have a chance to ride one.

Show me the beef.

I will admit I am a bit biased. I don't want an electric vehicle. And then there is the cost and the lack of range.

If the battery on my 52 vdc 20 amp E-bike is $800.00, can you imagine the price of a replacement battery for that bike!

...and presently mining for battery elements is primarily done by slave and child labor. (I own an e-bike)

With continued research and development, I believe electric may be "one" viable source of alternative energy. (Self discloser: I own and drive a Tesla.) However, I'm not sure BRP is, or will be one of most reliable developers of this technology. :dontknow:

I drive a self-charging (regenerative) hybrid. For now, I believe that's the way to go over full EV. Excellent mileage, and don't have to plug it in and wait for it to charge.

I can't afford an EV.
They say the average EV costs about $14000 more than a gas-powered car.
That would keep the SUV we have now in gas for three to four years.
Also been told that the average lifespan of a battery pack is eight years. And what will it cost to replace?
If you take care of your motor, it will last more than eight years (ours is ten years old and runs great).
Our last car is twenty years old, and a friend's daughter is still driving it.
How many EV's will still be on the road after twenty years on the road.
I know we have to do something and if I had the money, I would buy a Hybrid.
Rant over, Bruce

I brought that up at the dealer's sales table. My car's hybrid battery is warrantied for 10years or 150k miles. I'm sure they did that due to this concern exactly. Since this is hopefully my retirement (last) car, I'm hoping to be able to get it replaced under warranty in 9.5 years, lol.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :roflblack:

I don't have any interest for a Hybrid or an EV vehicle of any type. I have an EGO chainsaw, leaf blower and string trimmer and many hand tools of various brands and although they are lighter and easier to use, they are not my first choice at this time. I find it hard to justify how burning natural gas or coal to produce electricity, which then comes to the house via a power line, runs through a transformer, and charges a battery, which then powers a vehicle, to be in any way more energy efficient than just running an efficient gasoline or diesel fuel vehicle. JMO

Yea, but something as simple as a scratch to the battery cover will void that warranty as one ioniq 5 owner found out and the cost of the replacement battery was more than the total cost of the car which was less than 1 year old.

I am not interested in EV at all.

No, I did not get an email about the Electric Can Am two wheelers.

One important difference from your tools is that in regenerative braking hybrid cars, they also use the kinetic energy absorbed during braking to charge the battery. Thus, less fossil fuel usage. But don't get me wrong... I'm not thinking I'm "saving the planet" by any means. But with 93 octane running nearly $5/gallon now, I want the best MPG I can get.

I think many said they'd never get a reverse trike when they first came out.... I'm not voting either direction yet, just realizing that times change, and innovations happen, and I try to be slow to throw stones and make judgements.

How much does it cost to charge an EV after say 300 miles at an off-site station?
Also, what is the cost to put in a home charging station?
There is the safety aspect too.
What if an EV catches fire? Our neighbour is a fireman, and he says that battery fires are very hard to put out and keep out.
Most race-tracks have banned them for this reason.

I don't think we know what the answers will be for the Can-Am EV motorcycle, but there are some parallels to Teslas.

Home charging station, which requires a 24v connection: US $580 + installation cost (est US $750-$1,500)

https://www.tesla.com/support/charging/home-charging

Charging cost:

Pricing at Superchargers varies by location, but the cost is typically about $0.25 per kWh.

A full recharge to about 250 miles of range should cost approximately $22.00. More typically, an 80% charge should cost around $18.00.
