BLUEKNIGHT911 - Diagnosed June, Passed away due to cancer 23 Oct 2024 - RIP

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
So folks I have recently been diagnosed with Cancer :banghead:.... It's stage #4, so prognosis isn't good .... My attitude about this " We all die sometime " .... this may be mine :dontknow: ....I've started my Chemo and so far things have gotten a little better..... Pain is not too bad but it's there 24/7 ..... Please don't think of this as a " Oh Boo Hoo whoa is me thing thread " .... just letting you know I'm slowing down & why ..... I feel my time on Spyderlovers has had it's ups and down's ..... but mostly UPS. .... I think LaMonsters changes has been for the better ( at least in my case :roflblack:) ..... I've tried to assist in areas I have knowledge ( Yes especially TIRES :yikes:) & will continue to do so...... So accept this thread for what it is .... just keeping folks in the Loop .....Mike

Edit: Update posted Dec 2, 2024, also at post #71

I just heard:

"Mike Long, (who we all knew as BLUEKNIGHT911) passed away on Oct. 23, 2024, surrounded by his family."

https://www.timesargus.com/obituari...cle_0adeed22-6e93-5fdc-a813-d44f508e2514.html

He will be missed both here and in the broader SpyderLovers Community, and I strongly suspect in the wider community too! :(

May he R.I.P.

I am so sorry to hear this Mike. They are always making improvements in treatment. I have a niece that was diagnosed with an untreatable cancer about 2 years ago. She was 34 years old and just got married. They gave her the maximum treatment possible and it didn't even slow the cancer growth. They called it 'Triple Negative'. They gave her 6 to 8 months and basically told her to go home and die. But she didn't give up. With a new husband and her dreams ahead of her she started searching. She found a doctor and clinic in the LA area that only took 'Untreatable' terminal cancer patients and they said they had an 80% success rate, which they said was a cancer free status for 5 years.

It was very expensive and they don't guarantee anything. Remember, they only take terminal, untreatable patients. Frankly, I thought it likely fraud. But she went for it. It was no picnic, but the tumor began to shrink and eventually, she was cancer free. She has obviously outlived the original prognosis and has been cancer free for several months. One amazing thing is that the doctors who diagnosed and gave her the original prognosis won't even see her now. You'd think someone who specializes in cancer treatments would want to take a look at someone they told could not be cured who is now cancer free. At least to look at her records and verify her claims.

Of course, insurance would not cover any of it because it is deemed 'Experimental'. But they have quite a history of success over the years. It all seems very strange to me.

And this clinic does not do in house testing. They send all tests out to a reputable 3rd party facility that regularly takes samples from many conventional treatment centers. In other words, they aren't cooking the books.

I'm not saying they could help you Mike. Or, that you would even want to give them a try. Just relaying my niece's experience.

We all wish you the very best in your efforts on this one.

That's not good news Mike! :yikes:

Have you had earlier issues, and this is the latest stage?? Or have you only just found out and it's already that far along?? :dontknow:

Either way, it's nasty stuff; and I know from experience that no matter how bad it might be, that 'constant pain' is the pits!! :cus: I do hope that you are able to get some relief and maybe meds to help manage the pain that don't knock you around too much; and that the chemo isn't too traumatic & doesn't interfere with letting you still do those things you love & can still manage. Sending lots of   & good thoughts your way!

Thank you for your update. This is news no one wants to hear. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Hang in there.

I am more than happy to put you in touch with the family. They would be more than happy to fill you in with details that I don't have. I think people contact her often as she is quite pro-active and interested in helping anyone who is interested.

As a two time winner(survived two bouts of it) I am a great beleiver in the power of prayer and in the power of a positive attitude. Along with the treatments do what ever you can to keep your spirits up. In watching you on this forum I have formed the image of you as a strong and independent person. My suggestion is to start now reaching out to family, friends, neighbors. As chemo gets worse or cancer advances you will need them even for basic life's chores and just companionship. Try to surround yourself with as much family and friends as you can. Even long distance friends. I think you have many friends here who will want to reach out to you as you need us. So good luck, God bless, and share what you can with us. I really enjoy your posts and hope to keep seeing them for quite awhile yet.

.

My prayers are with you Mike. Hope the chemo does what it's supposed to do. Be as positive as you can as there are folks out there who have beaten this.
All the best,
Lew L

Thanks for your openness. This is bad news, and I am very sorry that you have to face this. My ex survived breast cancer twice 15-20 years ago. There is always hope, but I love your attitude, and am similar about things ... pragmatic but optimistic!

Sorry to hear of your news Mike. I have always admired your realistic approach to things as your post proves once again. Make the most of these days. Keep positive thoughts as we all will for you.

Thank you for sharing with us Mike. I don't have experience with this personally, and wish that you didn't either. I hope the best for you.

Mike, there is so many intertwined craziness regarding cancers.
Even as a stage 4, variables regarding the type, location of tumors, if solid organ tumors, or metastatic disease, and more factors in.

Your geographic location has you near to some great medical resources. Dana Farber and the team there is quite amazing.

Certainly will not be a fun time, but please, ensure you have a supportive caregiver, learn what you can if you desire that, and regardless of the medical folks around you, always remain your own best advocate.

Mike, you're certainly one of the more appreciated people on this forum with all of your knowledge about Spyders. As you can see, you have many friends on this site who will be supportive and sending up a lot of prayers for you and your family in the weeks and months ahead.

Mike..... I'm very sorry to hear this. Although we've never met in person, I do consider you to be a friend. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers..... Jim
