Unable to switch USB outlets in Rear Trunk to always on 2022 RT S2S

I want to have the Rear Trunk USB ports powered all the time in my 2022 S2S. I have read everyone's thoughts on why it is not a good idea. I have read the work arounds people have come up with. I know the owners manual says to put the fuse in the right hand fuse block position F7. Unfortunately, that did not work. I read here that someone said the F3 can not have the USB ports powered all the time. Does this apply to the RT as well? I have purchased the Shop Manual and traced out the circuit. From what I can see the USB ports can NOT be powered on by changing the position of the fuse between F6 and F7 on the 2022 RT S2S. Am I looking at it incorrectly? It all works fine when the key is switched on but I want the USB ports to be powered on all the time. Before I pay the outrageous labor fees at my dealer can anyone confirm that the USB ports CAN be powered on all the time. Thank you.

I'm not a shop mechanic. I didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I know a teeny bit about wiring. If your USB ports have a dedicated fuse, then it for sure can be moved from accessory/switched power to battery power by altering the feeds into the fuse block and/or going straight to the battery (or a new battery accessory block) with a new inline fuse. It may not be a trivial task, but it definitely can be done. (Caveat: UNLESS the nanny also watches this circuit-- that may cause you issues.)

Ha Ha, I enjoyed your reply. I can certainly wire directly to the battery with an inline fuse but I was rather not have to do this if this supposed to work. If it does not work as described in the owners manual then that is my next recourse.

If you have and know how to use a volt meter, you can test the manual's instructions easily enough to see if the fuse connection they want you to use is always hot or not.

No, they can’t be powered all the time. They’re not powered from the accessory circuit. They’re powered from the Top Case Harness, which is switched. Switching fuses only affects the GPS circuit on the right, forward side, and the accessory connections by the left side of the battery. You could install a standard auto type USB outlet in the plugged hole in the frunk and hook up there, or grab 12v from the GPS connection. Remember, if you ever put the fuse in F7, you remove the fuse from F6.

Thank you. That confirms what I thought. Guess I will have to wire in a cigarette style lighter plug in the frunk. Thanks

It’ll be easier to work with that connection if you remove the battery. Look for these on the left side of the bike behind the plug hole. Not much slack. Maybe get a plug with pig tails on it.

Or….

Just hook up to the battery directly since you want it powered up all the time, anyway. In line fuse. You’re right there.

Before you go to all that work to wire a cigarette lighter plug in the frunk, can I toss out another idea?
IF you already have a cable to plug your battery tender in, you know you can buy a cigarette light plug to SAE in and then use it to plug in
You can also get one that is SAE to usb..
I did this for my Spyder.
