There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Flooding under hard acceleration

Okay now your just making me feel bad. I was always under the impression that people who like to mod their machines have a better understanding of how one aspect of change would effect another area.

I think a lot of spyder owner's are new to bikes, they don't under stand M/C engines. a engine just a pump if you add something on one end you need to add on the other end . M/C engines are relatively small and your sitting right on top of it so any modification if not done just right will show up REAL quick.

I now have a Hindle, Green Filter, & cold air intake on my SM5. However, occasionally it acts like it floods under hard acceleration (sputter, sputter, pop - go). Anyone else experienced this?? Does it go away when the bike is fully warm?

I'll go back to full stock before I put a JB on it...

Thanx.
I have the Hindle and Kewlmetals intake setup and it runs just fine but I will get a JB to even the performance out a little more as it could use a little tweaking. I didn't run this good until I got both updates done though.

The issue here is the FI - most of us had to re-jet our bikes at some point in time... Heck, I had to do it to all six carbs on my old Valk.

However, with all the issues we already have with "Mother", messing with the complicator was daunting - especially when my main stealer said JB = dead extended warranty.

Fortunately, there's more than one stealer here, and the others said not so. However, with all the problems out there, I wouldn't risk the 5yr warranty on minor performance gains....

There's always more......

My Bad. As for modding cost you can buy a Hindle exhaust off another member on this forum or ebay pretty cheap $100-300, juice box $230 shipped ebay, cold air intake $200-300. With careful bargin hunting $550 for all of it.

No need to feel bad at all. If it wasn't for threads like this and the responses posted, then some of us would never know the difference. I am not a mechanic, and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so I have no choice but to rely on those of you who know these things to set me straight. :) Anyway, that would be looking at a minimum of another grand to get both bikes done. I will have to do some research on the JB first though, to see just how "plug and play" it really is. ;)

It is real plug and play and the program that is in it already is pretty close to perfect for exhaust and intake mods. The hardest part is finding the injector on the passenger side. But if you go with an fter market CAI that removes the factory air box then install is a piece of cake. As far as doing both bikes I find the honey let me test this set up first, to make sure it is safe and you will be happy with it dear:clap:. It has worked well for me.

Thanks for all the help. I may go ahead and go this route so that it is done properly from the start. Have to see what my tax burden is going to be first though. Our state is screwed up beyond belief when it comes to milking every dollar out of us to cover the high unemployment rates. I just got a property tax bill on my Spyder for $635!

Everything you do affects something else. A great example of this is the updates BRP has been doing. You fix one thing and break 2 more. Not supposed to go this way but it can.

Still, mods are fun and can really increase the enjoyment and effeciency of any vehicle. But some have to be done in conjuction with others to get the desired effect and avoid unwanted results.

The more you change the intake/exhaust flow the more likely it will be that you'll need to change the fuel as they are dependent on each other.

If you do it right you can get more HP, better performance and even better fuel mileage (the last being less likely but possible on the Spyder).

I've gone the whole route including the JB and I'm very happy. But it's not necessarily for everyone.

When I got my update done, I turned the JB off so that it would not affect anything...figured stock configuration is the best way to go when you're doing a major computer update!!

Dead extended warranty? Hardly...my dealership said it is fine and does nothing to void the warranty unless it is proven to be the cause of a problem. All it does is add some fuel at certain times...you can do anything to your bike and it will not void your warranty, unless it can be PROVEN that the modification created a problem. You can verify this with others...with the aftermarket options out there, manufacturers would get in big trouble if they forbid owners from doing anything to their vehicles...not because they don't care about the aftermarket options, but because they have to know for sure that the mod caused whatever the problem with the bike is...this is the case with cars, bikes, etc...it can be hard to do and the manufacturers don't want a lot of bad PR over this...the JB will hardly cause any damage to your bike...in fact, it allows it to run better...

Its leaned out...

With the high performance air filter and Hindle it is leaning out and nosing over as some racers call it. I believe a Juice Box would probably correct your problem.

It wouldn't matter if it is plugged in or not, the JB alters the signal as it leaves the computer, and won't effect downloads because the computer doesn't know it's there. If your down load is to correct a lean condition then the JB would effect the results, but if it is a download to correct DPS or exhaust smell with changing the rate the purge valve opens and closes then it won't make the slightest difference if the box is plugged in.

WOW....$635 pp tax. I would run not walk and register it in a state W/O that tax. If you need an "address" in FL let me know.

It is a strange situation here for sure. We do not pay sales tax on a new vehicle purchase, we have a $300 cap. Many people would consider that a huge bonus. However, instead we end up paying property tax on the vehicle every year at a rate that some bean counter in the capital determines based on a secret formula. I would really like to know what that formula is as I "only" paid $550 tax for my 2007 Ford Edge. :gaah:

Was considering moving south to SC in our old age, but that tax thing would bankrupt me with some 30 vehicles. Oh well, "global warming" has made it too chilly there, anyway. :roflblack:

Yes Scotty, and it is a different kind of cold here. I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, and cannot ever recall feeling as cold there as I have here. Something about the cold, humidity level, and wind that just cuts right to the bone here.

The only bright spot on the vehicle tax is they do depreciate it over time. My 1989 Corvette cost $100. :dontknow:

OK, I caved & bought the $220 unit on E-bay.... I hope to be finished with the Spyder some day..... getting to be a real pro at yanking the tupperware off!:coffee:

:congrats:

Please let me know how it all works out for you. Ease of installation, setting up the program and so forth.

I downloaded the instructions from TBR, and copied Lamont's settings from an earlier thread.

I will post the details next weekend, when I install the thing...

OK, it arrived in 72 hours (Wow service off E-bay!!!), took me 30 minutes to off the tupperwear, 45 to install (I'm not as flexible as I once was), 20 to program - you gotta be quick - and attach the new Mother (black box) and another 30 minutes to properly re-install the tupperwear and clean it.

Now I just have to wait until I get enough non-rain time to warm her up - hopefully before June! If it works, it was FAR easier to install than the sway bar!!!!

Thanks for the info! I may go ahead and pursue this as well, especially since my other option was to get the sway bar. :roflblack:

I must say - I've read a number of posts about the sway bar, and it is, without a doubt, the biggest "bang for the buck" Spyder farkle. Think powerslides with NO lean..... :2thumbs:
