2024 RT Ltd display shuts off - back to dealer!

Well sad update again on my 2024 S2S issues. After getting it back a week ago and having no issues, I brought it back this Wednesday to have the new 2024 F3 short reach handlebars installed. Those fit well and work on the S2S perfectly. No issues with the install. Arms feel better now!!

I ride it back home Wednesday, and it's fine - Bluetooth works; WIFI icon shows 4 bars on the display. Hook up my Sena 50s to bike and make sure the Samsung hooks up via Bluetooth and using the USB. Works fine on Thursday, makes/receives calls no issues. Get on the bike Friday and take a ride following my wife on her 2023 S2S - 8 miles in and the damn screen goes completely black except for the idiot lights on the row below the screen. And I hear a beeping noise...

Stop and try turning it off on several times, nada! Phone was hooked up in the rear cargo area via USB. Key was still on, but the bike was not running. I opened the rear trunk because I heard a beeping noise from back there. Phone was beeping and flashing a full screen error message that said "Disconnect the USB immediately or damage will occur. Something is wrong with cable or port."... yada.

I disconnect the phone and call my dealer who is 40 miles away. This is 3:30 pm Friday now. They say bring it back and we will have our tech work on it tomorrow to diagnose. While I am on the phone and my wife is looking on, the screen decides to work (after several more power cycles) I check quickly - nope, no codes! I report that to the service advisor as she is still on the phone with me.

Then I notice the WIFI icon and bars are gone - completely. Also, the Bluetooth icon is x'd out.
So I tell the dealer I'm bringing it in, but if the screen goes blank again while riding, they can come pick it up. They agree...

After hanging up, I try to get the Bluetooth to work, in case I get stuck on the road... Nope. It won't connect to my phone or to the Sena. I'm furious now.
Try to connect the USB again and get the "Disconnect Immediately" message again. Try to use the map pocket USB below the screen -nope, same error message. Take the phone to my wife's 202 S2S - yep, it works fine there using both bike's USB cables, and yes, they are the data and charging type cables.

Long story, but it is at the dealer and I'm not taking it back until it is fixed properly. They did double check all the cables/pins, and plug/unplug them to the screen, as well as load lest the new Yuasa battery. But they say they can't duplicate the issue; the screen is just fine and the Bluetooth and USB work just fine now. No codes. The Dealer did add to the case already at BRP. Service rep did say that maybe they will get BRP to replace the screen... BTW, I was told all the USB, Bluetooth, and WIFI is in the screen, the wiring of all the USB's goes to the screen. It's beginning to sound to me like the Bluetooth/WIFI chip is very suspect and the USB 5v power supply is also at fault. Probably bad capacitors or resistors or something like that. It still doesn't explain the black screen of death though.

I may get hold of BRP Customer Service and start to do what JB62 had to do.
JB62, please PM me next week so I can talk to you regarding how you went about getting BRP to replace the bike.

Ok, don’t know how to do this on main menu so will add additional info here about BRP’s attitude: I went to a city here in Texas yesterday where BRP were doing a demo of the new 2024 models. They were at a dealership with their trailer, etc. They had one S2S, one Ryker, and an F3. I went there to talk with their “product specialist” (that’s what BRP advertises for these demo events) hoping I can get some kind of “info” on ACP not being available.

I walked up to a “product specialist”, he just got done leading a demo ride and I saw him put his jacket in the trailer. He didn’t introduce himself, so I didn’t either. Anyway, I told him about not having ACP on my 2024 Spyder RTL parked from us about 20 feet away. He said they have had it on their “demo” models for about a month now!! I told him you may have it but customers who have bought the 2024’s don’t. Advised him he can talk to the Service Manager and Shop Foreman about it because they don’t have it on their BUDS2 either! He said, he doesn’t interact with the Service Dept. He then turned around and said he needed to get the keys out of the demo models as I stood there thinking he would come back to me and continue talking... wrong!! He went behind the trailer, and I never saw him again!!! I stood there looking around for about 3 minutes but couldn’t find him - it’s like he turned “invisible”. I had to leave because it looked like a storm was approaching.

So there it is, such “awesome” customer service. I could tell he didn’t seem to be interested all that much about my “concern” with ACP. I will call Customer Service on Monday and see how they interact with me. Might be interesting…

BRP didn't replace my bike, my dealership did. The dealership is fighting with BRP for compensation for my replacement, and to repair the old one.

The dealership was in contact with BRP regional execs and was putting pressure on them. BRP couldn't care less if they are fixed or not once you have paid for it.

I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that most of those Demo Rides that travel the country showing off the new models like that aren't necessarily or maybe even actually 'BRP Employees' as such, they are more of a Can Am/Spyder/Ryker 'Ambassador' who's been selected from all the owners out there to do a tour showing off the new models & leading demo rides. OK, they certainly don't get to do that out of the kindness of their hearts, so they are 'paid' somehow, but I'm pretty sure they are not strictly BRP Employees, even if they might be 'contractors' or even 'representing' them in some way! So you may be really maligning that fella by considering him as being in the same class as any BRP employee or a even as 'Customer Service' rep or provider!

A member & sponsor here, capt.jim, did a season or two running those things, I think largely around the lower half of the USA, and I reckon from what you've posted and I've outlined above, you might find out that you were basically just giving another Spyder Owner a hard time about something he had absofreakinlutely no control or input into whatsoever!! :yikes: Check capt.jim out here:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/member.php?1373-capt-jim

and maybe click on the 'Find Latest Posts' &/or 'Find Latest Threads' links down the Left side of his Profile page, then search back thru them a little to see the threads/posts where he describes what he did while he was running those demo rides. Here's a link to the thread on his '21 Florida Tour:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?144899-Florida-tour

So I'd suggest you go to his profile & check out any threads/posts you can find on this subject; you might even want to consider sending him a PM and asking if he's prepared to exchange contact details so you can talk to him about it all, he's a pretty helpful bloke and has been a contributing member here for quite some time now, even if he doesn't post quite so much these days.

Hello BlueSky
Thank you for the post about your conversation with your local can am dealer.
It shows that even now with all the time that has gone by since the 2024 came out for sale, the dealers still don’t know and can’t agree as to why the ACP does not work.
The excuse of license issue has all ready been said and been debunked as the latest firmware that was able to be downloaded had major bugs and had to be withdrawn.

I was told that the first week in May was going to be when they should have the firmware fixed.
With all the delays, I am not holding my breath.

Ok, 1st week of May coming up!! Went to ANOTHER dealer and Sales Manager was told by “demo team” that ACP was out, and customers can download it from WiFi!!! Yeah, right!!!

Note: Spoke with Sonia at BRP Customer Service today (she actually called me back about my concern with ACP) and she said the IT at BRP is still working on the update - that’s all the info she relayed to me.

Same bull****, I'm done with it. I am trading the Spyder for a Goldwing. I have no faith or trust in BRP/Can Am. Pity, because my dealer was excellent to work with. Can Am shut them down with trying to fix my Bluetooth issue; and told them to wait for the Software update. Not sure how that will fix a problem which appeared after 6 weeks of normal use then suddenly just quit.

Hello BlueSky
Thank you for checking another dealer and letting us know that BRP is not keeping the dealers informed about the ACP issue.
Thank you for the post about contacting BRP and letting us know what BRP said about still working on ACP.
I am still not holding my breath.

Hello Maplehawk
I understand your grief, and I feel for you since I too am an owner of a 2024 RT.
Here we pay 30K for a Spyder expecting BRP to do their part and sell us a complete working spyder, and what we get is a Spyder that is not completely functional, and not telling us, either through the dealer or from BRP, that there is a function (APC) that is not installed and does not work.
I talked to my dealer's salesman and told him the whole story about BRP selling me this incomplete Spyder and I should get a full refund for purchasing a Spyder from BRP that isn't as advertised. He agreed with what I said and was going to check with the owner of the dealership to see what he has to say about it.
That is a lot of money to spend on a Spyder and now thinking of trading it in for a Goldwing, I know they're not going to give you what you paid for it since it is classified as used, and defective since a component is defective when you trade it in.

My issue is that I can NOT listen to music from my iPhone anymore, I could when I purchased the Spyder, and now the radio just starts up and plays.
At one time there was a button to press on the radio screen for power; well, it's gone now, so I can't turn my radio on or off.

My issues are the same Johndeeredoo. Other issues I had were rattle/vibration at 45 mph and 70 mph, dealer said it was harmonic vibration of the belt; and clunky gear changes, again told normal for the bike. However, my dealer loaned me another new 2024 Spyder RT Limited whilst they were working on my bike, and this loaner had none of the issues I was experiencing on my bike. Bluetooth and Radio issues, Belt Vibration, and Gear change were all OK. Peace of mind comes at a cost unfortunately.

Thank you for the fast reply Maplehawk.
As for the rattle, I had a loose bolt that held on a cover on the bottom of the Spyder.
How many other loose or missing bolts are there that I did not see yet?
You did say that your dealer was great to work with, and that shows it, a loaner Spyder. It's too bad that yours does not perform like the loaner.
You mentioned about the clunk in shifting, the 2024 is quieter shifting through the gears compared to my 2018. They sound about the same when shifting into forward or reverse.
I have 24,000 miles on my 2018, and never had a problem with anything like I am having on my 2024.
I had to do updates to the gauge firmware, but nothing like what I am seeing on the 2024.

As for the vibration, BRP learned that the Spyder RT need a belt vibration dampener, and my 2024 came with one installed, I had to have my dealer install one on my 2018 and 2017 because of the belt vibration at about 55mph.

Have you tried a full reset of the head unit? Pretty sure I saw an option in there to reset everything and start over. My iPhone no longer pairs automatically with Bluetooth about 80% of the time. I have to unpair it on my iPhone, remove it on the Spyder, and re-pair every time I stop. Such a pain in the butt. This didn't happen at first either. I haven't tried the full reset on mine but probably will before next ride.

When I look at Bluetooth on my iPhone when it doesn't work, it tells me that the BRP device is not supported.

Thank you for your input

I was thinking about that too, (resetting the head).
Mine is not as bad as yours, but still thinking about it.

Dealer tried everything from the reset and a Software download of current Software. Funny thing is that both Phone and Bike show that it's connected to the bike. However, no sound comes out of the Speakers or Headset. If a call is received, I get music for a few seconds until the phone tries to accept the call.

Just checking, did you use a true Apple Lightning cable?
I've tried other cables, and some show a connection to the "dock", and another one does not.
I was thinking about resetting the dash, but was thinking, if I did, would it come out worse than what I have now?

My second 2024 Spyder has no issues; and I shut WIFI off and am not going to update it. I have no trust in BRP and will cut my losses with Apple Car Play not working as I probably wouldn't have used it anyway.

I mainly wanted the bigger screen. I wonder how BRP stays in business with how they treat their customers. If I knew this before I bought the Spyder, I would have bought something else.

I was thinking about resetting the dash, but that is 'was thinking' - if I did, would it come out worse than what I have now?

Cable and procedures i use worked originally on my bike and also worked on the Loaner
