Does anybody else feel there is a problem with this piece meal fixing? If there is a problem, they should be doing a recall; they must know the s/n's of the spyders that have the dps built by the manufacturer doing the questionable work.
I know this has been mentioned before because I have mentioned it as well as way2fast; at least I think he did.
It's like BRP saying we aren't going to help you until you almost run into someone or off the road and then we'll throw in another dps and hope for the best.
Yes, I did mention this problem. Although BRP seems responsive at fixing individual Spyders that have experienced steering problems are they really thinking...."Dam the owners who purchased our product" If they were really concerned about owner/operator safety they would do an across the board recall and replace EVERY power steering unit. They don't seem to really have a clue as to which units are defective. This can be confirmed by all the cases where people have had more than one DPS replacement only to find the new unit is also defective. So far, to the best of this forums knowledge, BRP has been lucky that no one has been killed due to their negligence. They had better keep their insurance paid up, because "luck" has a habit of running out!!
Two weeks agon my dealer said that he was going to order a new DPS to correct some steering faults that I have been having.
Got a call yesterday, thursday, that the part has arrived and if I would bring the spyder in they would install the new DPS and it would take 3-4 hrs maybe 5 at most. I agreed to take it to them at 10 AM Today Friday.
Well, about 12:30 the dealer called and said they ran into a small glitch. The DPS they received was non-functional. So, they have to get another from BRP and BRP would ship overnight the replacement DPS. Well Come to find out, BRP has no stock, and are awaiting for the Manufacture to ship the new DPS, which is scheduled to arrive at BRP Monday or Tuesday, but BRP cannot ship overnight if they received the parts after 3 PM any day. What is overnight that I do not understand. Fri, Sat, Sun Mon, Tue, and ?? Wed ???. I guess Canada has a different way of couting than we do. Oh Well.. Maybe repaired by Wed, Thur, Fir, Sat, Sun or this time next year:joke:. A little joke here.:joke:
Needless to say, I believe the Dealer is doing his best and seems very sincere in his effort to resolve the part issue, and has offered to have me rent a small car, or if I were to borrow one, for mileage and/or Gasoline while the Spyder is in the shop.. WOW That is super and I commend Central Florida Powersport, Kissimmee, Fl for their customer concern. WOW WOW..
So, I will wait until I get a call that the spyder is ready, hopefully sooner than later.
I will follow up as progress is in the making.
To the best of my knowledge(which is limited), BRP has yet to pinpoint the cause of the steering issues. Some have had em, some not(yet). New cases crop up daily. I wouldn't be giving others a 'false sense of security'....You or they could be next. Not having a problem today, is no guarantee for tomorrow as far as far as the steering issue has been going.....
Best of luck with the whole global warming thing, there is now a research article out stating we are hurtling toward another ice age. I suppose this is another job like the weather forecasters where you can be wrong all the time and still keep your job.![]()
I am glad the information about the problem has been posted so people should at least know how to react to it if it happens to them. At the same time, I do not want to give up my Spyder for 7 weeks or so, as some have done on here, just in case it may have a problem down the road. I hope it never happens, but all I can do is be as prepared as possible and hope for the best if it does.
Didn't your friend get a recall notice last July? Just about everyone who owns a Spyder was notified by mail. There was also a recall update last September.:dontknow:I'm also glad the information has been posted here......but how about all the owners that don't watch these forums???? I have a friend who doesn't have a computer, and had the steering problem, and it scared the h*** out of him. Beside contacting the dealer, I had him fill out a form to the NHTSA.
Just in this thread alone., I count......effgjamis, ferno, jsmiley, PCBeachBum, C3517C, phantom13lady, and stgiler, that have had a streeing problem.....plus ataDude, BajaRon, and Smylinacha that have had theirs fixed.
My Question.......How many of you reported this problem to NHTSA ?
There is a lot of us out here that haven't had the problem....yet.....
You may not want your Spyder waiting for 7 weeks at the shop, but I wouldn't care if mine had to sit at the dealers all winter long, if it had to, to get this problem taken care of.
There is a lot of PE owners here, coming up on our 2yr warranty.
If enough reports go to NHTSA, BRP will have to pin point the cause of this steering problem, and issue a recall. JMHO
Sorry to hear of your loss, I also have a sibling battling a cancer issue
Please, tell me how a person should "react" if their steering locks up at 60 or 70mph and it happens to guide them into the grill of a Peterbuilt?
I sympathize with not wanting lose any Spydering time, but at what cost?
I've been trying to stay outa' these steering threads, I'm just trying to say that the problem hasn't gone away.

me too hdxHDXBONES, my sincere apology as I thought I had posted a reply to this, but when re-reading all of the posts realized I did not. I truly hope the treatments will go well for your sibling and the outcome will be a good one. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as well. I wish you all the best during this battle, as it is truly a terrible thing for anyone to have to go through.
This is a follow up of my steering issue.
The dealer called me today, dec 9,2009 and said I could pick up the spyder at noon.
Well It has been 6 days, and I got my spyder back..
The first 20 miles the steering seemed to be good, and I do believe more responsive than it was before and that is a good sign.
The Dealer, Central Powersports, Kissimmee, Fl. did me a good turn and many kudo's to them.
I was just getting ready to sit down to eat supper and I got a strange call, 819 area code, and lo and behold it was Carlo ( BRP ) and asked me how things were going. He had talked with the dealer today and he wish to hear what I had to say. Needless to say, VERY POSITIVE, for the dealer and the response of BRP in shipping the replacement DPS part so quickly.
I wish to thank, Carlo, (BRP) Mike and Mansor (Central Powersports) for acting with as much haste as possible.
Come this Monday I should know with resonable certanity that my steering issue has been resolved. Planning on a good ride for the toys for tots and beyond.
