An interesting problem developed on my 2020 F3-S SS :ani29: now with about 24,000 miles on it. Posting about it here for future reference in case this happens to someone else.
I searched and searched and couldn't find another report or thread about it.
I went up to SpyderQuest in Lake George NY, about a 165 mile ride from CT. Had a great ride up there and participated in a couple of rides including a go-fast scoot ride and it was a lot of fun.
Here's the problem -the clutch was engaging in first gear at idle. Meaning if I shifted from neutral into first (with foot on brake of course), the clutch would engage and drop the engine RPMs down a bit. Idle speed was normal at 850 to 900 or so. If I let my foot off the brake the bike would immediately start to go forward without hitting the throttle. I had to be real careful to give it gas very slowly or it would stall the engine. Otherwise the bike shifted normally through all the gears and all speeds.
It was mild at first but got progressively worse. By the time I got back home to CT, it was pretty bad.
Putting it into gear would almost stall it and the bike would take off. Yes the oil was not too old and was at full level if anyone is thinking that.
Called my dealer. He said "bring it in we'll look at". I'm very lucky that I only live about 2 miles away. I have a great relationship with my dealer as I've purchased several snowmobiles and the Spyder from them and I'm always popping in there for parts and stuff. This is the first time the Spyder has been in the shop because I usually do all my own work. Drove the bike there and dropped it off Tuesday afternoon. I called them Wednesday about 3:30 pm and they said they were just bringing it in to look at it.
I was concerned both about my poor baby being broken and was anticipating it being down for weeks waiting for parts or something like needing a new transmission. Also because I had a ride scheduled for Thursday that I was leading with several other Spyders and didn't want to cancel that. Fortunately I have a friend with a few Spyders and he lent me his old 2009 GS. So I was able to use that for the ride Thursday (which was great).
Anyway, the dealer had the bike fixed by 3:00pm on Thursday. I was able to pick it up and take it home.:bowdown: I had purchased the BEST warranty this spring so it only cost me the $50 deductible.
Now for some entertainment I'll let you guys guess what the fix was. I'll give a hint. It wasn't electronic - there are no adjustments for clutch engagement speed in BUDS.
I'll give up the answer in a day or so or if someone correctly guesses it.
Thanks
Mike
