New 2022 RTL Parking brake releases when parked! Ideas why?

This happened to me a couple of times before the last service, but everything checked out OK (no fault codes) when the dealer did the last service a few weeks ago. Since then it has happened 3 more times. I rode the RTL this afternoon and parked it on the driveway with the PB set and the bike could not be moved. Tonight I came out and the RTL could be easily pushed before turning on the key!! The PB light was not on when I turned on the key.
An obvious safety issue since the Spyder can roll away if parked on a slope and injure a pedestrian or roll onto the street or highway and cause an accident.
Seems like something wrong with the motor that drives the pulley that pulls on the brake cable? Any ideas why the motor does not lock? Or has anyone else experienced this??
Thx
Jim

Was it flashing, or solid on? Flashing - engaged, solid on -error usually a code when bike is running.

When bike moves freely, after parking brake locked in, when you turned the key was the parking brake flashing, solid or none before it started? If the brake light is solid and it freely moves then there is a problem. Get it checked and take a wheel chock with you. I would guess that when you turn the key and it does freely move the light would not be on at all. Try to observe what it is doing when set the parking brake and when you start its not set. Need to know if the brake light is solid, flashing or off in those instances. Out of curiousness does it only happen in the garage? Do you have a cat or put a cover on it? Please check your rear tire. Make sure where the brake cable comes on the right side there’s a slot before and after the 12mm nuts. Make sure that is slid all the way down into the slot. There is also a little “T” that latches into a slot at the end of the cable. Is that “T” sitting perfect in the slot? If it is rocked or just snagged it engages pulls the brake but could be rotating with the pressure and actually releasing some tension on the brake cable. Inturn it would loosen the brake.

My guess is PB motor is bad. There is no external locking mechanism AFIK. The motor apparently locks in place after the PB is actuated.

But then that's a guess. Take it for what it's worth.

As I said in my first post; “ I rode the RTL this afternoon and parked it on the driveway with the PB set and the bike could not be moved. Tonight I came out and the RTL could be easily pushed before turning on the key!! The PB light was not on when I turned on the key.”
The PB applies normally when the button is pressed, the light comes on and the RTLcannot be moved.
It was parked outside, no cover and no kitty cats!!
Since the light is not on when I turn on the key, this tells me the pulley has moved while it was sitting there and released the brake. From what I can tell from the service manual, the limit switch for the light operates off the pulley position.

I think your guess is correct!! Ive come to the same conclusion. Will see what the dealer has to say

Incorrect! If that light is not on when you turn the key the brake is not engaged. The only way that could happen is if the dash switch itself was depressed or bad. When you push the dash switch the brake light comes on when engaged. When you push that dash switch the light goes out or blinks if there is a fault. If the brake light is off when you start then either something is pushing the dash brake switch, or there is an electrical issue causing that switch to turn off. I say dash switch is bad or there is an electrical issue that is disengaging the switch when the key is turned off. The motor would be causing a blinking fault because the brake itself is either trying to engage or disengage when the dash switch is pressed. Now that we know the parking brake light is off when you start it can’t be the slot or T slot at the rear tire. If the light would have been on when you start then it would be the motor or rear brake mounts.

You would think it would flash and be faulting if the motor was not working. ?

The motor IS working, it sounds like it's not mechanically locking into place. Unless there's another locking mechanism I'll apply Occam's razor here. It's the simplest explanation without knowing more about the problem.

The service manual shows the parking brake light (limit) switch at the pulley. From what I can figure, When the PB pushbutton is pushed, the motor starts, turns the pulley which pulls the cable tight, then the switch senses the correct position of the pulley and turns on the dash light.

Just look down by the rear caliper and see if the cable is moving?

And with the switches involved in its operation you would think it would fault out , that's if the cable and components were not working.

I would make a small set of wheel chocks out of wood and get that new ride back to the dealer and get it fixed on their time and money! There is something hair wire in that system, switch, motor, whatever it is they should be able to fix it! Use the wheel chocks in the meantime so you can still ride it!! I would not trust it the way you're talking! Good luck

Brand new bike, so all under warranty. Just another 2.5 hr trip to the dealer. This would be the second trip to dealer since I bought it mid August!

Yes, the cable is moving and applies the brake, just as it should. Sometime later, the the pulley moves and releases the brake, while the bike is sitting there. It is an intermittent fault because after sitting all night, the brake was still applied today. That will be a challenge for the dealer!!

If it's doing it to you on a regular basis, then it will do it for the dealer also. It's not safe the way it is!:dontknow:

You have a new Spyder with a parking brake that malfunctions. Get it to the dealership and tell them to fix it. If you get any gas about part availability, tell them to take the necessary parts from another new machine and put your backside back on the road.
