Brake faillure light after changing pads - please help?!

I have changed my front brakes on my spyder rs 2012 and the brake failure light comes on please help me

I just did a three tire change ..... and I needed to adjust the REAR drive belt position ..... of course the " Brake Failure " light came on. ...... However it will self correct after running the engine again ..... While the engine is OFF remove the KEY away from the switch for 15-30 seconds and re-start ..... Mike

Have you pumped the pistons out and checked the fluid level? Do the work and hold it in a stopped position? I got an alert but it soon cleared within a few meters of riding. Make sure they do work first before you ride off. If that doesn't work I would re-visit what I did and check everything.

You will get a brake failure light if you change the pads, then turn the key on before pumping up the brakes. Your only solution may be a trip to the dealer. Always pump the brakes up hard BEFORE turning the key on when changing the pads.

Hey Cirruss. After working on brakes or brake fluid, the brake failure message may come in. It’s always for one of two reasons.

1 - The brake fluid level in the reservoir chambers is still just a bit low. The remedy is to top it off. Observe the floats in the sensors in the rear of the chambers and add fluid until the top of the float is at least level to the outer ring of the sensor. Yes, it looks very full. Also make sure that the rubber gasket in the cap hasn’t unfolded and expanded. If it has, just push it back in. Should look like the picture in your manual. If this is the problem, the message will clear out on its own.

2 - What Joel was talking about. You possibly triggered the low pressure switch brake failure. It’s one of the few faults on a Spyder that sticks and must be reset. I believe that an RS is the same as an RT in this regard. Try this to reset;

- Ensure that the key has been off for at least 30 seconds to a minute so that all of the computers have shutdown.
- Turn on the key and wait for your display to completely boot up.
- Stand on the brake pedal hard as if you were heavily braking. Really hard. You will hear one click of the brake light switch, and possibly - but not always - a second click of the low pressure switch.
- Keep standing hard on the brake pedal and turn off the key.
- Continue standing hard on the brake pedal for another 30 seconds to a minute until your display completely shuts down. Now you can let your foot off of the pedal
- Cross your fingers and turn on the key. Do not stand on the pedal. See if the warning clears. If not, turn off the key, wait until the display shuts down again and go through the sequence again.

Keep in mind that if you got any air in the system during your brake work, that this is a valid warning. The air in the system causes the low pressure. It won’t reset until you bleed the system. As Joel said, sometimes you end up needing to have the dealer reset it with BUDS. Too bad you’re not closer. We’d do it here. Good luck.

Brake issues

:chat:....Yes, sometimes 'the Spyder' can give you the pain in the neck issues.

1. Make sure your fluid level is correct.
2. All Air Must be completely removed from the system.
3. Don't turn on your Key before you begin to bleed.
4. Don't turn on your Key while bleeding the System.
5. Just Don't turn on your Key till you're done.
6. This will make the system easier to service.
7. This is how I have done my fluid change service.
8. You need a good quality Service Manual.
9. If you have problems with the system your Spyder will let you know.
10. Then you might want to call your Local Spyder Dealer.

I have yet to receive any problems with my Spyder about Brake Issues.

I hope this helps you.
Good Luck on Your Mission. ....

Just had the same issue - new brakes and tires, and the Brake Failure message came on. Decided to do a complete brake line flush with new fluids, made sure the levels were right. Reset the code and so far things have been great. Brakes also work so much better now!
