• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Searching for LEDs for Tail/Brake lights - any ideas?

Hello,
I am searching LED-Bulbs for the Tail and Brake light.

Do you have any proposals for me..??
I had read that it is not possible to change to any kind of LED bulb, as maybe the Spyder wont start??

Hi germanspyderrider, I can tell about the Brake lights, but I'm not exactly sure which other lights you want to change to LED's?? Do you mean the Reversing lights (back up? - you EU fella's & us Ozzies have something completely different to everyone else back there! ;) ) or just the tail light that lets everyone know where the back end of the Spyder is?? :dontknow:

There are LED's available with built in resistors so that you can use them in vehicles that are particularly voltage sensitive like our Spyders, hopefully someone will have an answer/source or part numbers for you - once we know exactly which lights you want to replace?

Ok - we have other rules about lightning in Germany.

You wrote a link for bulbs in amber - ours must be red..
Did you understand me now?

What is the OEM incandescent bulb and base number?

Hello Pete,

many thanks, but it is only half help.

Our Spyders need bulbs (especially the brake light bulbs) that are canbus compatible.
If we use the normal LED bulbs the Spyder will throw a code that causes it to run in Limp Home mode, because the canbus is thinking there's a broken brake light.

Maybe I can simplify this ...... All Spyders have bulb MODEL / TYPE numbers assigned to them ..... Like H-3 or 9005 ( theses are for headlights ) .... take the bulb out and use the number printed on the bulb to find it's LED equivalent ..... Make sure the LED's are Can-bus ready ..... good luck .... Mike

That's what I did. I used the bulb designation and searched for LED equivalent. Further research may be needed to find ones that are Can-Bus ready.

Info on using LED bulbs on a Can-bus

https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/blog/led-bulb-canbus-error-codes-how-to-fix-with-video/ i particularly like the straightforward explanation and solutions here.

https://www.lazerlamps.com/blog/pos...ed-lights-to-a-vehicle-fitted-with-can-wiring this is more of a generic explanation of can-bus systems, but is quite good I think

https://www.digikey.com/en/articles...isolation-for-reliable-operation-of-can-buses this is more technical, for eggheads like me

Amazon search for can-bus compatible bulbs https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Canbus+c...+brake+light+led+bulbs,aps,178&ref=nb_sb_noss

Do any of these help?

I know that some of the LED accessory lights used on Spyders have a small capacitor-looking device in the positive wire (for this reason I believe).
