• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Topping off your fuel tank - is it good practice??

I've been thinking about the funnel thing but haven't done it, yet. I'm gonna try that and see how it works. I always fill to the locking ring. Always. I get real nervous come 200 miles. I generally fill up at 150 miles to be safe. I've been a long distance pedestrian once and I never want to be one again.

I use a 11" funnel like in the pic. Depending on how well the pump you choose that day trickles, it's possible to keep the level about even with the top of the filler cup and let it trickle down until it is touching the bottom of the filler cup. You might also notice I have opened those larger vents and the little on in the center slightly with an awl. That extra venting made a little difference but not a lot.

If the pump you use doesn't trickle well, you may have to get sort of a rhythm going so you bump it wait for it to drain down a second or two then repeat. I typically stop at the bottom of the cup but that nearly always gets another gallon after the first auto-stop.

COOL, I like that! I got the funnel and have an awl. Gonna get started on that today. Thanks

i guess I'm lazy.... I put the nozzle in the tank opening when it triggers off I'm done.... I have no time nor desire to do anything else... :ohyea:

I'm kind of from the school of thought that a few extra minutes filling up is way better than running out at 150 miles and needing a tow ($$$$) or someone with a gas can. Now if you run around where there are lots of gas pumps, maybe not a big deal but here in the Tx Panhandle there can be some pretty good distances between pumps and having to plan your routes on 150 mile range is a pain in the tucus.

Especially when we are on a longer ride, I will put the hose about 1" inside the tank. When I get a splash, and the pump stops, I will usually round up to the next dollar. Then I move the hose to MY bike and repeat the process.

I do pretty-much the same....
I fill the tank slowly, watch closely, then when I get a little splash the fuel is right at the very top and I shut it off cause I can actually see the gas... any more and it would risk a spill-over.
