• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Screen Repair

Some time ago, I took the screen off to clean it and managed to tighten the bolts too hard and cracked the screen. Used a fibreglass repair kit at the time. Now I've had to take screen off again to clean properly and the fibreglass repair has just disintegrated as I took screen off. Any ideas what to do use this time? Thanks.

I thought the BRP screens were polycarbonate which would not crack as easily as acrylic but perhaps they are not. :dontknow:

I would go to a specialty plastics fabricator and see what they recommend.

If you cannot find anyone local perhaps look at this special plastics glue http://www.selleys.com.au/Selleys-Plastics-Glue/default.aspx
:dontknow:

Fibreglass generally means a polysether resin and that wont stick (from my experience) - some epoxys might though.

If you want a new BRP screen I have one standard one, and a BRP touring one as well as a secondhand CHAD (and the new Madstads of course)

Not sure what the BRP screen is made out of but it's nowhere near as good as the after-market I have on my Yamaha Roadstar and the OE on my GSXR750. The BRP screen is actually pitted and permanently stained from road grime. That's why I take it off to clean it as best I can. Too hard to clean when it's left on. And the black graded paint along the bottom edge also tends to rub off. For something that comes from the manufacturer of SeaDoos and SkiDoos and saltwater craft, the screen quality is a bit disappointing.

I've used the fibreglass repair kit on many items with mixed results. Sometimes it sticks great and others it just comes off when dried. When I do get something to stick plastics, it generally breaks down over time in sunlight. May try Araldite or Selly's Knead-It.

Hi Dicko.

Ask a question here: <http://www.dotmar.com.au/enquiry> The seem to be fairly aware of the properties of various plastics.

Cheers;

Pogo.

Didn't find anything at your suggested site but it was a big, big hint as to where to start. Looked up Makrolan (Bayer). Essentially, I don't think you are actually supposed to repair it.

How was Imbil? I was camping next to Dave (aka Davorallyfan). He went south instead of north. We had a big conversation in braille on Friday. Apparently it was his birthday.

I couldn't see anything written there, but there is a box to ask a question. I'd give it a go.

I know Davo quite well. He sold me my GTR outfit. I was wondering why he wasn't at Imbil.

Imbil was a hoot. Great weather. 1170 party loving people there (including no doubt some Braille experts;)). I saw two other Spyders there; a pink one that I first saw at the Ruptured Budgie a couple of years back, and a Full Moon one with Batman decals and spikes on the guards :yikes: It took me two hours to get my tent up because people kept asking questions about my Spyder. Longest distance was taken by a bloke on a world tour who had ridden across from West Oz. The road out was closed for a couple of hours on Sunday morning after a collision between two bikes and a car at one of the one lane bridges. They brought a helicopter in to get one of them out. All up, 2300km and four days of three wheeled bliss.

Repaired the screen with something called JB Weld. Used it before. Then I sanded down the outside of the screen with 800 grain wet & dry and painted it matt-black. A bit rough but a blind man would be glad to see it. Just want a nice big Spyder pic on it now. Also made some leather washers from a tongue of old shoe to put behind screen.
