• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Maintenance question

BLACK WIDOW

I have approximately 7000 miles on my Spyder and essentially have had no problems (except for little things that should be expected). Here is my question: Has anyone gotten 25,000 miles on the Spyder without major issues yet? Major issues to me would be engine output shafts, sprockets/ pulleys, bearing failure, engine problems that required major tear down, system failures that could cause deadly accidents or render the machine inoperable, fires, ect. I am just wondering what the mileage point is that most problems occur.:dontknow:

Black that's a great question and not alot of miles.I'm picking up an 09 soon and deciding whether to get the Best 5yr or Best Plus just for safety sake.

I expect to get 100,000 miles without significant mechanical problems (not including the two safety issues). I have done this several times with a Harley. I don't see any reason why a Spyder should not do the same. From what I can tell, the Rotax engine has a very good reputation for durability. Since I ride more than 40,000 miles a year, it won't be too long and we will find out if the Spyder is good for 100,000 trouble-free miles.

I'm afraid I didn't make it. The starter gear train bearings had to be replaced before the first servicing and the DPS unit replaced at around 2500 miles.

Like Black Widow, I am approaching 7,000 miles and no problems. No sticking parking brake, no brake squeal, no gas smell, no post DPS recall problems, no loose relays, no overheating, no error messages, etc. Just burn spot on muffler and burned out tail light bulb. I'm knocking on the desk as I type (does particle board count as wood?)

I have over 22K with no major issues. My only issues have been the brake squeal, the parking brake issue, one minor incident with the DPS within the first 10K miles, and the false "brake failure" code.

I do, however, fear going in for both of the DPS updates... I'm not having any problems with my steering and I frequently ride through my neighborhood at 25 MPH and make turns one handed almost effortlessly. I believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Right now I am scheduled to go in for my updates and 18K service in about 3 weeks.
