2020 Ryker Rally: Suspension Adjustment - How? Where? What with? What settings?

I have read through the suspension posts, but can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. This is a two part suspension question:

Part 1: Adjusting the Rally Suspension:

I am trying to get a better understanding on how to adjust the rear spring on the RALLY edition. The 600/900 base versions are extremely straight forward as there are 5 notches, just go up or down as needed.

(1A) What am I looking for? The manual gives specific measurements for the rally, but the black and white pics are messing with my eyes and I can't tell exactly what I am supposed to be measuring.

(1B) What tool do I use? Do I use the same tool as I would for the 5 notch spring or is there something different?

-==--=-=-=-=--=--=

Part 2: Two-up question

I mostly ride solo, work, leisure rides, etc... Recently my wife has mentioned wanting to ride with me, no major touring, just cruising for an hour or so on the weekends.

I am aware of the manuals guidance of the weight capacity (438lbs) but I am curious as to real world testers as I saw a video where the guy said he was hitting his fender (900 non-rally model) when ride 2up on the 5th notch.

I just want to know if the rally suspension would hold up better.

Me- 6' 1'' @ 193lbs (approx 205 max/with gear)
Wife - 5' 9'' @ 165lbs (approx 175 max/with gear)

**both are athletic builds

Total weight approx 358 - 380lbs

The measurement they refer to is from the snap ring to the 1st lock ring. You really need a spanner wrench to do the adjustment. 2 spanner wrenches makes it easier.

I used a screw driver and a hammer because I did not have a spanner wrench. I would rather have used the proper tool, but didn't have one so I had to make do.

To the best of my knowledge the rear Rally suspension is adjusted with the Red Knob from position 1 thru 4?
The 900s have the 5 different slots for the spanner? Maybe I missed something?

So the manual says the following:

1/4 = solo
7/16 = occasional passenger
5/8 = Often Passenger

Below I posted three pics, the first is where I am assuming the manual is referring to as far as what I am measuring. The second pic is where its current set from dealer (which looks like max setting), and the third is how much lower the back sinks with two riders on. The last pic shows just how much it drops when loaded.

1. Am I looking at the correct points to measure?
2. Is that distance normal for two up/will it rub?

So I just found this gem. This guy filmed a two-up video loading the rally at max capacity. I think we will be ok. Would still like clarification on the suspension measurements though.

IF that is in fact it's max setting, is it ok to leave it there when I'm riding solo? I have enjoyed my rides thus far having never looked at it before. Could it actually be better by loosing it up when I'm solo?

Sure, you can set preload anywhere you want. More preload is a stiffer suspension, less preload is a softer suspension. I'm actually going to soften mine up a bit from the stock setting. The rear rides decent but if you are on rough pavement the rear can be jarring. Little less preload should help with this. I'll bump my clicker to 2 after I soften the preload.

I loosened the front suspension (removed preload) from 3 (the stock setting) to 2 and that helped a lot with the bouncy effect on rough pavement.

I have a Rally and I’m way over the max weight capacity, have never bottomed and have a lot of potholes on my road.

I believe I set the damping at 3 and the dealer set the threads to the 2 up setting before I took delivery of the bike. Ride is comfortable though visible clearance is limited.

Make sure your tires are properly inflated. When I first picked up my Rally the tires were way over inflated to around 42psi, and the ride was terrible.

Also, upgrading your sway bar is a good idea especially if you are pushing the weight limits at all.

Great information and photos...after much searching!

I found your take on Ryker Rally rear suspension adjustment very helpful with photos that make sense! I had no luck finding help from searching YouTube videos or reading the Operating Manual. Thank you!

Don't expect a reply GarV :oldpost: It ALWAYS pays to Check the dates on the first post in a thread AND the last few posts in a thread before replying/posting, and in this instance, it's worth noting the colour of the poster's usernames too. The Red usernames you see so many of in this thread, including the one you quoted, indicate that the member concerned is no longer active on the Forum, as they haven't visited or posted at all for some years &/or they haven't updated/validated their contact details when requested... :dontknow:

All that said, it never hurts to do a little thread archeology if you're adding to the knowledge base &/or shared experiences that make the Forum such a handy & helpful place; but like I said above, don't expect a response from Ryker571! Even if an inactive member does somehow realise that a post like yours referring to one of theirs has been made, they'd then need to send a 'Contact Us' message (via the link on the bottom of each page) including all their old username details with updated/valid contact info, and requesting that their username/account be reactivated - and all that's not going to be something that's likely to happen over-night!

Just Sayin'
