• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. DPS Update #2 feedback

I have an appointment in two days to have the DPS#2 update. DPS#1 caused the well-documented mid-RPM hesitation, so I temporarily modified the fuel vapor evap cannister. They're willing to do the software download now, then do the revised vent tube when the parts arrive.

Two questions:
Has anyone had the DPS#2 update done AND also re-conected the fuel evap cannister back to stock configuration...does it run well?

What exactly does the revised vent tube include and can owners do it themselves (like the ground wires fix)? Photos would be appreciated.

Thank you.

:sour: say Badger, all the dealers do, is the soft-ware update, & run the evaporative hose, from the canister, ( the goose neck one) towards the right front wheel, behind the radiator, to vent to the atmosphere, thus they gotta order a 2ft length of hose, clamps, etc., I already by-pass purge valve & canistyer, & re-route evaporative hose, my-self, SO TOLD DEALER TOO LEAVE IT ALONE !! :yikes: :2thumbs:

:agree:

My Evap can isn't going back into my bike. It's all to obvious why they are moving that evap line--- so it doesn't spill onto the hot engine and pipes below--- and thus start a fire.

Since I pulled my evap can and put a fuel filter in the vent line-- and ran it to the opposite side of the swing-arm--- I notice gas dripping after every ride--- even when my tank is low. I'm thinking I'll put a drip loop in the hose in hopes of keeping that gas from dripping--- but this tells me that liquid gas can easily get into the evap can----- after a ride--- when I would assume the purge valve is set to vent from the gas tank to the evap can.

No wonder people have been having gas smells.

I might put a catch can on the vent line and see just how much gas is leaking from the tank vent.

Bad design.

The Fix After the Fix

I had done the suggested "fix" by clamping the purge valve hose and my bike ran well afterwords. Before I did it, I had the same hesitation/surge that has been frequently described here.

I got the official upgrade last Friday at the BBQ and the bike runs exactly as it did before I had the original "upgrade". It did not hesitate or surge at all; indeed we ran our bikes for two days of rain and mist on the way home and it never missed a beat.

Btw, I had "unfixed" the purge valve hose while the bike was in line to get the official upgrade last Friday.

Recycle that gas. Run that hose back to the top of the gas tank. :shemademe_smilie:
Uh, venting the gas tank back to the gas tank kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing, doesn't it? Could cause the gas tank to collapse in the end.

When I had my 600 mile service done this past Tues, I had the announcement printed off from the BRP site and showed the dealer. They said they would check it out. I have not done any mechanical modifications to the bike, (09 Phantom), so my evap system was completely stock. I did have the surging/hesitation however. After getting the bike back, I did not notice any surging or hesitiation at all, so I assume they performed the ECU update.

But, my evap hose is still like it was before, short and pointing to the back. Maybe they didn't have the parts in, I'm not sure.

Either way, they bike runs great now, and since it had the first update before I bought it, I never knew any different.

One thing I thought of. For the folks that have pulled the evap canister and are just running the vent hose down; how about running it up and maybe over the air box, then down the front? This way, if any fuel did try to leak out, it would have to go uphill a ways to escape. Once the pressure was released, it could drain back into the tank. I we were to create a sort of P-trap in the hose, as I seem to have read above, I would think that hydro lock may become an issue. With the longer upward slope as I have mentioned, there is not a chance of hydrolock, the venting could still take place, and any fuel pushed out would likely go right back to the tank.

What do you guys think?
