• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A couple of electrical questions

First off I'm a new owner and don't know much of anything about spyders, but I was a Porsche Audi mechanic ( poor shoddy mechanic?) for 25 years so I am generally familiar with 12v systems. Then again it's been a while...

I am about to do a few things- run wires for my GPS, wires for my heated jacket, wires for the battery tender, and I am wondering-

If I unhook the battery does anything odd happen? like computers all forgetting everything and requiring a reset of some sort?

I haven't really thought about the wire routing much- any suggestions as to placement of various items?

Here's what I did. Note that I used wiring looms for all extra wiring, also.

If you disconnect the battery long enough, you may need to reset the clock. Beyond that you should have no problems. I ran heavy wire (fused) to the battery and another to the chassis ground, and installed an auxiliary fuse box and a ground buss under the hood (trunklid). I triggered the fuse box via a 30 amp relay connected to the switched accessory circuit. That made wiring all my electrical accessories simple, since the wiring was all under the console from there on. I have installed switched and unswitched Powerlet outlets, a harness for heated clothing, and my comm system. I run the battery charger through the unswitched Powerlet, but you could also use the heated gear harness and a different adapter. No particular suggestions for routing, but I did run split loom forward, to keep thing where they belonged. Use plenty of tie-wraps. There are a few pictures in my album.

Please NOTE: The terminals that you see under the seat DO NOT disconnect the battery. You have to remove the rear shift-side panel to access the actual battery and disconnect there.

That is where I hooked up my Battery Tender and a few other items.

I also used a powerbus kit from Evoluzione.net.

Thanks all - this is great advice and suggestions.
I think i'll hold off a bit and order a fuse panel and relay to set up a forward located power take off point. I really hadn't thought about it much- now I don't have to as you all did the thinking for me ;)

This may be of interest to you when you make your selection:

I wanted to locate it where Scotty has is; but, even with the longest wire option it would not reach. I mounted it with hook and loop under the dash.

+1 on PC-8. I made the same mistake on the lead by not ordering one long enough but you can have one special made to the length of your choice. . The fuse box is a good unit and with the lead to the battery it comes with everything you need.

Those look really nice--- I would have gone that route if I had seen them.

:agree: I can't remember what I paid for the Evoluzione PowerBus but those prices for the PC-8 kits with leads look pretty good. That being said, I have had absolutely ZERO issues with the Evoluzione PowerBus and it's worked great from day one.

The Eastern Beaver PC-8 stuff looks very good and I am very tempted to go that way.

A couple of folks said they wish they ordered longer cables to go with theirs- can you tell me how long I ought to order, and where you put your box up front?

Did the powerbus kit today!

not bad a liitle confusing but got it done

took 3 hrs due to some techincal issues on my part
