How much weight can be put on an exterior luggage rack?

On a F3 Limited Tour luggage Rack. It looks so light weight that I am fearful of breaking the lid. I am transitioning from an RTL, and that lid seemed to me much smaller and more stout.

On an F3L the rear trunk is my most used storage compartment. It has a lot more room than the frunk. Putting luggage on top of it severely limits its use.

My touring experience is gleaned from hundreds and thousands of miles of two wheeling, but I think this might apply to three as well. When loading, the heavier items go in the side cases - the lower, the better. The top case is for lighter items and things you want to access quickly, such as rain gear or a heavier jacket, camera. The top case rack bag is for what you want to take into the motel room; toiletries, underwear, and the like and thus, it will not weigh much.

I think the instructions for the BRP rack I put on Kathy's 2018 F3l stated 5# max.

I think that is what I was afraid of. This makes the rack more of a bling item than a useful item. On my RTL I had a full bag up there.
