front cargo light

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 and I found an area where a frunk light would go.

Here is a picture: View attachment 162480Right side (inside of Frunk) front.( White is a paper towel to show the area).

Question: What is the hole at top?

Deanna

The upper hole appears to be a tear in the fabric edge that secures the frunk liner. Remove the seal and reset the frunk liner.

It sounds like I need to figure out how to bring that power outlet into the frunk.

If you don't already have it, it's an available option from BRP. It might be more expensive than an aftermarket one, but the OEM outlet will surely fit.

Now that you know what it looks like, you can probably find an aftermarket one.

Press and hold the ECO button while turning off the ignition switch will put it in accessory mode.

So like the radio etc will stay on. I never tested the frunk light while using this mode.

Just tested your idea, the headlights and frunk light are on the timer and turn off regardless of accessory mode or not.

I read the Accessory mode on this site. May have been Finess Bob who mentioned it or Lamont?

I use a MP3 player but dont have a USB on my Spyder.

You did switch to AUX mode on the radio? for the USB to work. But then again I have no clue if you have a 2018 MY

Oh yes. I use an MP3 player on the AUX mode with the 3.5mm audio plug . But it will be nice to also be able to use an USB. I don't think BRP made this available on the 2018 RT Limited.

This is a very informative post. It should probably be renamed "Secrets of the Spyder" and be made a stickey.

I learned something new today. I didn't know that... Thank you. BTW, is this info in the manual? The book is missing a lot of good info.

Now, is anyone on this board figured out how to use an USB thumb drive for music on a 2018 RT limited? I tried using the existing USB ports but no good.
I just looked through the 2018 RT user manual out of curiosity. There's nothing in the manual about having the radio play after the ignition is turned off. Does that even work on your 2018? It's in the 2014 manual. Remember, the entire audio system was totally revamped for 2018. It looks like they dropped AM and Weather radio reception. There may be very little that is applicable from prior years.

The only options I find for auxiliary audio is Bluetooth connected audio device, or plugged into the aux cable in the frunk. I think it's been mentioned before but the front USB is intended for smartphone use only. I don't remember but is there an app to play mp3 off of a phone? As far as playing mp3 files from a USB stick it looks like you are out of luck. The manual says you have limited control of an iPod connected to the aux port in the frunk.

It looks like you'll have to move your mp3 files off the USB to an i device.

Probably correct, and somewhere here is a Lamont video where he bought the inexpensive BT receiver, plugged that into the USB, then BT connected audio into the Spyder from his phone. No doubt other methods work, but the USB port not being a data port has been discussed before, mostly regarding F3Ts I think it was.

Utah, that's the same as the one I used, the one that is a bear to get installed, except if you have the frunk removed. Use this one only if you can't find one with a lock ring on the outside or a snap in model that you can just push into the hole.

I did. I re-routed the audio plug to the front by the handle bar. Much easy that way. I found a miniature MP3 player, although it can hold about 2000 songs. Double stick on a bracket and it's right in front of me.MP3.jpg

Here again, that would be for models prior to 2018.

But wait, the guy with 18 stated he uses the MP3 into the 3.5mm jack. The USB will power the Bluetooth. Seems exactly what Lamonster did and stated works well for short money.

Right, but he would like to use a USB stick with mp3 to play his tunes. From what I'm reading here and in the user manual is the USB in the frunk is for controlling a smartphone with the 2018 cluster. The phone also has to be connected via BT so I take that to mean that the audio stream from the phone to the bike is via BT. It looks like the USB is not a regular data connection like on a computer.

With the 2015-17 F3, and 2016-17 RT the USB performs the same audio connection as the DIN connector did previously. That is the input that Lamonster's BT adapter/receiver uses. That same approach should work using the USB and 3.5 connectors in the trunk, and probably in the frunk also. I do the same thing on my 2014 RTS except I BT the audio from my tablet/GPS into the GPS input of the audio system. But, to BT a phone being used as the media source you don't need an adapter for the 2018 RT frunk connections. Use the USB for charging and BT connect the phone for BT audio. But when you do that you won't be able to run the Connect apps on the phone, I don't think.

I think another alternative that would work would be to get a BT transmitter and plug the USB stick into it, if such an animal exists. BT transmitters exist, I know, but don't know if any will accept a USB stick. Power the transmitter using the USB in the trunk and pair the BT transmitter to the bike BT.

I believe it's been mentioned, but I'm not sure. Will the 2018 cluster pair with two BT sources at the same time, or only 1 BT pair at a time?

I think you got that wrong. The guy initially tried to have the bike read data from a USB port and had to go to a MP3 hardwired into the 3.5mm port. There is no reason to use an MP3 AND a USB stick on the Spyder as you stated. The Spyder is in a sense dumb and essentially just a set of speakers, it needs music played into it.

Check again, in Lamonts video, his BT adapter was powered by the USB, but sound flowed via the 3.5mm jack.

If for no other reason, plugging the MP3 into the USB will save the rider from needing to recharge his MP3.

Regarding your 2014, for you to BT anything into the bike itself, you must have some type of BT receiver to go from the Tablet into the bikes GPS audio input. Possibly you run a Sena Dongle or similar.

In regards to the update from the early style round DIN connector, to USB, granted these ports could offer charging when needed, but essentially allowed the owner to utilize a standard USB to Apple cable to run an Apple device from the trunk. Items such as MP3 still required the 3.5mm audio connect, and were only controlling volume, whereas an Apple device was fully controlled via the Audio control on the left handgrip area. Similar to the 14 and prior, just did away with a round DIN special cable.

That's happens sometimes. At least the thread didn't go in the other direction for the worst as some have. Still lots of info on this thread :yes:There should be another thread for usb/ music posted

Obviously I didn't make myself clear. What I'm saying is you can use an mp3 player plugged into the 3.5, OR if you want to play from a USB stick you can use a BT transmitter to transmit the mp3 files off off the stick to the bike BT, if such a transmitter exists. I didn't intend to indicate you need to use an mp3 player and a USB stick at the same time. And I didn't make clear I do use a BT receiver for my tablet. It's some oddball brand I bought off eBay.

The upshot is, as I understand it, that with the 2018 Connect system you are not able to play mp3 files directly off a USB stick like you could with the earlier model years.
