There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. F3L windshield recommendations

Looking to replace stock windshield for 2016 F3L .
Your experiences with different windshield's would be very helpful.
I'm 5ft 7 and like to look over the windshield. I've seen the F4 and Madstad online.
Thanks

I have the BRP Tallboy Mid Height and I like it. If I hadn’t gotten such a good deal on it I would have purchased an F4 Customs instead.

They are ALL slightly different, RNBOB. If you can tell us what was wrong with the stock screen, and what exactly you are trying to achieve with an aftermarket screen, we can probably assist.

Pete.

Pete.

I'm having head buffeting above 70. Would like it quieter for rider and passenger. Also some hand protection. Little more protection from cold. Planning on riding till snow falls.

Thanks Bob. Replacing the stock screen was that first thing I did after having to get my wife to pop my eyeballs back in after the 3 hour trip home from the dealer:yikes:.

I can only speak for the F4 and the Madstad on my F3-L, but I found the Madstad too stifling around the hands/cuffs in the Aussie summer, while the F4 has cutouts. It sounds like the Madstad might be more what you are after if you want more cold weather hand protection. On the other hand, the F4 provides great all round protection from general buffeting, which is why I have gone with it, as there is a LOT of me to buffet.;) I have the F4 25”, but I am quite a bit taller than you. The top of the screen is about level with my lips, so I see over the top easily, and the wind hits the very top of my helmet, right where my Shoei has its air vent......perfect. F4 also has a great site where you can see and measure exactly which height screen will work best for you. Another huge plus of the F4 (especially for me), is their hardness. You can pull into a service station and wipe and dry the screen with water and paper towels, which you can’t do with others.

Below is a photo of an F4 overlaid over a Madstad. The F4 has the wider top and the cutouts at the bottom. Another plus for Madstad is that it has mounts which allow you to move the screen up/down and tilt. This was no use to me with the Madstad screen as I had to have it on max height anyway, so I drilled a couple of extra holes in the F4 and mounted it on the Madstad brackets. It now works a treat, but it’s an expensive way to do it

Hope this helps a bit. Both these screens are excellent, and I know there are others that people swear by.

Pete

Thanks, great info. I think I like the idea of a vent to open in the summer. Can the madstad be adjustable enough to keep you cool in summer and warm in fall/spring?

I can’t see why not, Bob. I got the F4 because I am 6’7 with a 54” chest, so I need all the coverage I can get to avoid being blown off the F3 ;). The Madstad has around 3” (going by memory) of up/down movement and a couple of inches of forward/back.

The only issue I have with the Madstad is the one I mentioned earlier of it restricting airflow up my sleeves in the hot Aussie summer.......Also I would have to say that the vent I have in my F4 makes no noticeable difference in my opinion. You get enough venting from under the screen. I wouldn’t bother with one again.

I'm 5'11" and had the tall boy on my F3T.

Too much head buffeting and all kind of bugs directly on my face.

I tried the 20" Madstad and ended-up returning it for a 22" (by the way, excellent service from them).

The main reason I went to Madstad was the possibility to adjust it in height and angle. As I cannot test all of the possibility of aftermarket windshield, I went to the one that offer more flexibility.

The 20" was about the same thing than the BRP tall boy in heights. Which wasn't doing any good for me.

The 22" is perfect. Actually, it is configured to the highest position at the middle angle and I'm all covered. Looking just a bit over the windshield.

In summer, I will be able to lower it of about 2" and also change the angle.

So far, I like it a lot !

I have the F4 Custom 21". I'm 6' tall and don't like looking through a shield. The main reason for going with the F4 Custom is that it's wider than stock. I wanted to block the wind off my elbows which can jerk the arms some and reverberate down to the hands and the handlebars. I didn't get the vent as there is more of an opening at the bottom of the shield than on the RT. I did go with the tinted shield.

I say do a search on Ebay. I purchased one exactly like the F4, 23" shield about 3 weeks ago. I bought it for $145 shipped. I was told that it was not an F4, but who cares. It works great, and I am not out of a ton of money. I will only be using it during the winter months, as I prefer the lower stock shield for warmer months.
There is one exactly like it on Ebay now for $249.95 shipped. BTW, I used it last week at the Maggie Valley spyder rally, and loved it. I will post pictures when I can.

F4 23" V&T

That's a great price. 23" how tall are you? I would need the 21" I think. Did you get a vent or none? After going to the site I know what V&T means. Vent and tint. Did you have a coupon code when you ordered it online?

6"1" with 32" inseam. The wind just clears the top of my helmet. Didn't do much for the hands. Very nice this morning when the temp was 36 degrees. My eyes see about 3" over the top of the windshield. Call sid at 877-229-6123. That was the veteran price

After measuring like they show on F4 video even the 21inch would be too tall for me to look over.
The Madstad 16inch looks like it may go low enough. Not many choices for 5ft7 rider.
