• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Smoke coming from the Spyder....

Well, 900 miles on the Spyder. Just had the 600 mile service and DPS recall done a couple of weeks ago. No problems with the Spyder except it seems to sputter now after the DPS recall. No big problem there but definitely not how it used to be.

Now on to the bigger issue....

Been smelling something similar to burning rubber after I shut down the Spyder. This just started a day or two ago. Today, parked it in the garage and a little smoke came out the right hand side (if you're facing the front). I was ready to try to push the Spyder out of the garage but the smoke only lasted for about 2-3 seconds.

Called dealer and was told that this was not normal and to bring it in. :gaah:

WT:gaah:?! So the steering fix screws up the way it runs now? And smoke? Let us know what the dealer says when you bring it back in.

definitely engineering problem

As aspyder owner Ive marveled at the tech aspects of the spyder.I am really old school biker and built and raced motorcycles over the last 40yrs.The spyder is a really different type of machine and this site and the forums posted really helped to understand this machine. It wasnt until my nephew, who has a doctorate in automotive engineering, went over the spyder w/me in detail and has opened my eyes to some of its flaws. On the outside the spyder is pretty aerodynamic and the airdams move the air around the bike very well especially at speed. Those same quailities though dont seem to help the spyder internally. As my nephew pointed out, once we got all of the body panels off, the evidence of heat build up inside the bike are troubling and many. The problems come from poor factory assembly and proper essential wiring and plumming routing. He pointed out the helter skelter of electrical components run along side fuel and cooling lines. Also noted were the evidence of heat build up in that plugs that should be solid in their construct were starting to be soft and pliable and very easy to wretch apart.Wire harnesses too close to hot engine components and able to be chaffed and lines bent in ways that may allow breakage or leakange.he also noted that the covering on most of the electrical componentswas too low grade to sustain ample protection against prolonged heat inside the engine compartment.Too little air is flowing underneath the panels covering the spyder and through and around the engine.Ive got 16,000mi on my bike and now considering making major changes to wiring harness coverings, feul line and cooling lines and adding more air flow to the engine compartment.Making more air flow under the panels is essential. It goes beyond pipe wrapping and insulation.Im also going to re rout entangled wires and lines and use approved racing type clamp sys.to keep everything in place. No doubt that there has been fires w/the spyder and the probable cause is constant unabated heat build up that over time causes hose and wire breaks and weakness.

Definitely let us know what your dealer finds out. As to the burning smell check and see if something is touching you exhaust. I had this problem after 3000K service when the tech did not plug everything back up and was intermittently touch my exhaust.
