• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sachs Big Bore - Elka stage 4 - 2016 F3-L

Was given a tour of their facility in Canoga Park CA. about
20 miles from where I am, and was shown all the different
bins for the parts that go into making a shock, which explained
why it took so long to put together. If they were out of a
particular part. Believe they machined all of there parts.
Believe I was introduced to Gil, but wasn't aware until now
of how famous he was in the AMA. Actually says he passed
in May 2015 from a heart attack. sad

oops never mind, won't promote what they no longer make :banghead:

Did not pay attention that this was F3 topic, just assumed
all the shocks for Rt & F3 were the same. Sorry for the confusion.
Will step aside.

No doubt I may have my dates / time frame mixed up on his death, but it was not too long ago. Yes, Gil made a mark in the motorcycle community, especially motocross. Recently, for another motorcycle, I had shipped to me a pair of Curnutt shocks. Working with Charlie Curnutt is where Gil got his start. Also with the Curnutt shocks was a very early non gas pressurized set of Works Performance shocks. These are the oldest Works Performance shocks I have had, possibly circa 75.

Please don't "step aside", TicketBait. All this information is invaluable for me in particular in my research, and I'm sure for others. I simply thought there must be some thing I was missing.

Thanks Norm......so the way they show the shocks on their F3-T order page is effectively upside down, as they install shaft up. I'll look more closely after breakfast (very important:thumbup:) to see if they recommend the cover that the guys are talking about or if it is not necessary.

Pete

Shaft down we often call upside down. Shaft up is right side up or conventional.

Are you pairing a set of Fox Shox on the front with an Elka rear or ???

If the shocks you currently ride can be rebuilt, far cheaper to have them revalved than to buy new.

The short term configuration will be the Elkas on the front and the two up Sachs on the rear. I will then move to an Elka on the back if the fronts work ok. Where I live, buying in a new set of Elkas is way more convenient (albeit a little more expensive) than getting shocks rebuilt, PMK ;)

A friend of mine and one of the best suspension tuners in the world in my opinion lives is OZ. Straight shooter and always ready for a new challenge. I would call him before buying Elkas, assuming you have Fox Shox already.

He may even be able to build you Ohlins or Penske shocks after evaluating the current settings on his shock dyno.

Interested? The guy is Terry Hay, at Shock Treatment.

If you do call him, you can mention that Paul from Florida mentioned his shop to you. We have worked on a couple things together in the past.

Thanks for the referral, Paul. The F3-T is Sachs all round. I do notice that he is a Sachs dealer though, so maybe he can work with them. He's about 6 hours away from me. I'll see if it's practical.

Call and speak with Terry.

Bitten the Bullet - Wilbers

Ok.....I have bitten the bullet and ordered the Wilbers 630/640 shocks, same as Martin, except mine are in black. Suspensions R Us are a very professional, highly recommended group that are centrally located in Melbourne. Total cost is not cheap at around $2400aud. The owner recommended the Wilbers over the Elka for a number of reasons, but the major one was the much larger dealer network for Wilbers here in Oz. Adjustable on the fly rear for pillion etc, and set up to best cater for our less than smooth roads and my 300lbs.

Many thanks to Martin for taking the time to release his invaluable video on the Wilbers.

Now to put on my "patient" hat and wait the 4 weeks for custom manufacture and delivery.

Pete
