• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Drain Plugs

I'm new to the 1330 engine and have a question. I plan to swap out the drain plugs on its first service. Ok Dimple shows two plugs but Gold shows 3 plugs MP18 for the engine, MP02 for the tank and a MP01 for the clutch. Why doesn't the Dimple site show 3 plugs :dontknow:

Any recommendations on which plug is better I think the gold and dimple are the same. Thanks

First, there are only 2 plugs on the 1330. Second, do not replace the engine plug (the long one with multiple o-rings) with one that has a magnet set in it. The wall thickness between the o-ring groove and the magnet leaves far too little metal and the threaded portion breaks off inside your engine if you over tighten it even slightly. Just don't do it. Its a major deal to fix when it happens.

There is NOTHING wrong with the factory installed plugs if you use the right tools to remove them and replace the gaskets every time.

wow. hadnt heard this before. i put in the gold plugs. only changed oil
once so far. anyone had trouble with the gold plugs?--irv

Was looking to change them out Seems to me the head would strip out on the stock ones with the Allen wrench insert.

OEM PLUGS

the OEM PLUGS are garbage.... YES, they will strip out.... :gaah:
i changed mine to the GOLD PLUGS, and only used the 2... the 3rd plug may have something to do with the 'clutch'... not sure... i have the SE6...

They will. The metal that BRP uses is quite soft and even with the proper tools and technique the heads will deform and become very difficult to use.

Choices, choices

They all have their good points and bad points. The oem work fine if you use a new tight fitting tool but like most will fail eventually over time and repeated use. The new 1330 should not be an issue seeing as the changes are so far apart. You remove them once to the two or three time you do on the older models. The others are easier but they went further with the modifications than just the head so they may have other issues. Your choice as to which way you go. After the initial break in there is little metal accumulation on those magnet....

At my first oil change at 3000 miles I had the dealership install the Dimple plugs. When my next service was done it did it myself and change to the Gold Plugs. I heard that there have been a few Dimple Plug that have broken inside the engine. But there are just 2 plugs you need to buy.

WELLLLLLL NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT

A member here actually did a comparison of the GOLD vs. the DIMPLE brands...... It showed the DIMPLE had a thinner WALL in the THREAD area compared to the GOLD brand ........ Mike :roflblack:

Its
happened to several folks on here. Have seen it once personally in my shop. I will not install them.

You
do realize one is allen head and one is Torx. Even many dealers try and use an Allen head in both plugs.

I have done many oil changes on many Spyders. I have seen plugs damaged by others but not once have I been able to damage a factory plug using the correct tools. That said, the hex head is easier to deal with. Its just that the aftermarket plugs insist on installing a magnet down the middle of the engine drain plug and then cut o-ring grooves around it. Very bad design and I will not install them. Leave the darn magnet out and the plug solid steel and I would have no problem recommending them.
