GOT ANOTHER PACKAGE TODAY

On my RT Mirror Magnets Project ... I wanted something extremely strong but very flexible and thin to fit between the mirror and RT body....... I thought about " fishing line " and discovered they actually make some with a 300 lb. break rating...... This is what I received to day. Of course I am a " doubter " so I cut a length, knotted it and put it in my vise. Tied the end around a piece of pipe so it was about six inches from the floor.... stepped on the pipe ....nothing , jumped on the pipe :gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah:..... well that almost tipped over the work bench :lecturef_smilie:..... But the fishing line didn't break, so I'm certain it won't on the mirror either........... People have had their side panels come off and gone ..... so I'm looking into making a short lanyard for those side pieces....... I'll keep you all posted on this ....... Mike :thumbup:

That will do the trick....some electeicl crimp on Eyelets and your good to go. Make them short...you don't want them poping off and beating you up..:roflblack::roflblack: although I doubt they will fall off.....:thumbup:

Are you just using the fishing line as a safety lanyard on the mirrors? 300 lb test seems like overkill :thumbup: I have alot of faith in the strength of the magnets I found on ebay. No lanyard for me.

Yes it's a safety cord for the mirror .....Overkill ...ABSOLUTELY ..... But let's put this in prospective - loss of mirror / replacement = about $ 300.00 .................... piece of 300lb lanyard ( 6 inches ) .06 .... you do the math..... If you find out the magnets weren't quite strong enough .... I'm pretty sure you'll never tell us about it...... If my lanyard saves my mirror , I'll boast about it hyea:......... Mike :thumbup:

" electeicl crimp on Eyelets " , I don't know what these are ........however I did look at the pesky panels though. People have used various types of " lanyards " in the past and it seems most haven't worked...... I think the main reason isn't the strength of the lanyard but - the length of it .....and where it was attached ( on the panel and on the Spyder ........ After looking at Merlot's safety lanyard , it occurred to me that if the mirror cam off it could travel about 10 inches and then start banging around in the wind .....it's going to get UGLY pretty quick and the clear plastic wing is going the get busted ...IMHO ..... so on mine, My lanyard is only 2 1/2 inches long. I drilled a tiny hole in the top part of the mirror and threaded the lanyard through ... you then loosen the top T-30 torx bolt and wrap the lanyard around it and tighten it..... if the mirror should come lose, it can only travel 2 1/2 in., this is big difference.......... the Lower Panel has plastic NUB at the front , you can thread a 5 inch piece of lanyard thru this nub and then attach it to the T-30 torx bolt above it. If the panel should come lose it isn't going to travel far and bang around in the wind like it would on a 12 inch leader ( that does break ) ....... jmho .... Mike :thumbup:

Nay, old Mike is putting you all on. He is actually testing a new method of catching Tuna with his mirrors!

He needs all the strength he can get. You never know when a big one might come along.

The only potential issue I could see with your great idea is that the line may get brittle with heat,sun,or gas so I would replace once in a while

I apologize for those emoticons - heat, sun, gas ........ the lanyard for the mirror is totally protected from any of that ...... and the side panel ...it might get a little heat .............. but thank you .....I will keep an EYE on them ....... Also better known as .....ring terminals in the electrical world .... not very strong however :banghead:

When I had the RT I did this. Made them easy to remove when necessary. Thankfully nothing ever came loose but........

Why not just tie a fishermen's loop? That seems to work for them and doesn't cost anything.
