• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Jan and I will be taking our F3S' from northern Calif to Victoria BC. We plan to ride up the coast of Vancouver Island to Campbell River then cross the straight via ferry to Powell river. Spend the night and then head south to Vancouver via the "Sun Shine HWY 101. There will be several ferry crossings. Any one have any experience with this proposed ride?:opps:
I understand that our "three wheelers" may not have the same ferry priveldges as the two wheelers. Any suggestions would be most welcome

I took the ferry a few years ago and we were slowed to proceed to the front of the line. Bring lots of Loonies, the ferries aren't cheap.

last yr my ride to Nova Scotia was cut short when my F3 had an electrical issue, but the ferry from Portland, ME to Novi, the charge for a SPYD3R was the same for a car, and not a 2 wheeler....

Ann, We are making ferry reservations from Port Angels to Victoria. Any thoughts on whether we need reservations for the ferry ride down the Sun Shine HWY to Vancouver.

If you are coming up the 5 give us a shout out if you need a place to stay , we live just 8 miles off the 5 on Hwy. 20 in Lebanon.

That sounds like a great ride plan! We did that a couple of years ago. Washington State Ferries allow motorcycles (& trikes) first boarding priority, so does BC Ferries. Instead of parking you with the two wheelers they put you in the first car spot and chock your tires.

Swing through Astoria, Oregon, and I'll be glad to show you the history around here, and a few good places to eat.

Vacation

Thanks all for your replies. We have our route planned from northern Calif and then up the Oregon and Washington coast. Our stay in Victoria is mostly planned and we are starting to organize tHe ride up the Vancouver coast. Did more research on the Sunshine HWY and it is a highly recommended motorcycle ride by several motorcycle journalists.
Trip home is till up in the air. May Cruze through to Glacier Park.
jimboregon, we are staying in Oceans Shores on July 8-10. Not far from Astoria.

BTW you can't cross over to the mainland from Campbell River, you have to backtrack to the nearest ferry is south in Courtney.

Contact the local M/C club

If you want current real information about
the area roads, ferries, costs of the ferry on 3 wheels
check with GVMC Greater Vancover Motorcycle Club

From Port Angeles you will take the Black Ball Ferry to Victoria. They are not part of the WA State Ferry System. The 2016 fare for a trike was $49.50 for trike and rider. Passenger fare was $18.00. You can make reservations and get info online at www.cohoferry.com.

You might need reservations but I've never taken that route. Check here about reservations

and here for a schedule, but summer ones are not out yet.

I have taken the Anacortes to Swartz Bay route a few times and in my opinion is a better more scenic ride. Get to the terminal a bit early their always crowded.

I rode the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo just last summer, and I received all the same consideration and privileges as the two wheelers. (First on, first off, cheaper fare), and same thing going from Victoria back to Tsawwassen. Don't know about the Black Ball line from Port Angeles to Victoria.

Thanks

Thanks for all the information. Was very helpful. We made reservations for the ferry ride (Black Ball Ferry) from Port Angels to Victoria. Will explore the ferry from Comox to Powell River next.
Not sure if I need reservations for the ferry over Saltery Bay.
again thanks for the Info. We are really excited for this trip.
