• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has my clutch fallen apart?

It's working, but is it supposed to look like that?

Ouch..!!

This is common with a leaking seal on the master cylinder. Brake fluid is very corrosive and will eat the paint . You can clean it off sand it down a bit and repaint it. check the seal and replace it if needed...This will not effect the functioning parts but will look ugly...:gaah:

thanks!

Thanks, Chupaca! :)
I have a trip planned for next week, glad to hear that the Spyder (probably) won't blow up in a strange parking lot....

Check to be sure that your clutch fluid is at the proper level before your trip. If it leaked enough to look like that you might be low.

did you get the cycle new ? or used ? I am having a good time finding a leak in my clutch department , thinking I have a loose fitting at the point where the lever line connects too a valve type vacuum splitter , hoping all I need is replacement bushings , and or hose ... but will be thrilled with bushings at the connection joints , and a twist of a wrench  .... hope all goes well on your trip , very nice weather away from the east coast side !

Still worried about

I'm still worried about the little, very thin delicate looking metal piece that is now exposed. (It's almost smack dab in the middle of the picture.) The clutch lever hitting it is what opens the clutch to allow shifting. Maybe I'll make a classy duck tape cover for protection.
Thanks for the tip about checking levels!

That flap of metal is a switch. When you pull on the clutch handle you will see a pin push on that strip and actuate a switch.
The switch is there so if your in cruise control and pull on the clutch, it cancels cruise control.
It also provides information to the system that the clutch is pulled.

It's normal.

What worries me is that I haven't seen it before. Was it covered? Was I just not looking? Should I cover it?

Clutch switch

Its always been there.
There is no cover. As Bob said it works with the cruise control. Also
it allows the engine to start in gear with the clutch pulled in.

So I can cancel my order of extra-strength valium?~Sandee~

You should probably keep the order open. Then you will have some to carry with you to medicate the inevitable idiot you run into that is offended beyond belief that you are riding that contraption that just violates all of his/her preconceived notions of what a motorcycle should be.

I'm a nurse, so would need a doctor's order, especially if I administer it against somebody's will. But if I learned to make my own bullets OUT of valium..........
