What is your belt gap?

Thought I'd post on here and ask what everyone is running for belt gap. See what people like best or if there is any difference.

I'm running looks to be about 3mm from the inside.

What is everyone else running. And is my setting no good?

I've had my bike 3 years.

I originally did my own laser alignment on the bike.

Still have nice true front tire tread on my bike.

Rear tire was replaced heading into the second year because I like full throttle. :opps:

With that said, I haven't had to mess with any adjustment of my belt, but I do also have one of those belt tensioners on my bike.

Don't even remember where I got the tensioner, somebody here.

Mine is closer than yours: a LOT closer!
When the technician adjusted the belt tension back in August: he moved some stuff around that has made me sit up and take notice... nojoke

Looking at his pic, mine is much closer too. Always has been, even stock.

As long as the belt is completely ON the sprocket, ie not partially off the outside edge and not wearing the inside edge, the gap mostly does not matter.

It also looks like at least on some models, BRP has added an outside flange to the sprocket.

REAR SPROCKET

Mine seems to be in a different place every time I look at ( which is often )..... Always on the Sprocket near the flange, but it does move .......Mike

My belt was alot closer as well before I changed the rear tire. I did adjust a bit for belt tension. I went from 200 lbs to 190lbs. Or lbs ft whatever. So I might loosen the axle nut and turn the right side a bit to move the belt in a little.

With the rear tire off the floor I notice a considerable change in belt clearance while running parked in 1st or 2nd gear--thus something is not a true round.

Here's the thing....

When checking the gap you should run the wheel back and forth several revolutions. The gap should be 1-5mm and mine is less. Thats the only way to keep the belt from walking towards the outter edge. Where you have your belt now, that looks to be more than 3mm, if you back up about 20 ft your belt may be a bit off the sprocket. If not your good...

Ya I adjusted it a bit to move it in. But I measured and it's 3 mm.

That's what it looks like after a 200km ride and just pulling in garage.

But I agree. Backing up might move it to where I don't want it.

I was actually in a dealership yesterday that had (2) RT's and (4) f3's and i looked at everyone of the drive belts to see where they were sitting. Everyone of them were right up against the flange. I put a credit card in between the gap and flange on each one and only (1) was set to where I was able to even begin to push the card in between them.

So apparently, BRP sets them to run right up against the flange now. I had my tension set on my RT and it's right against the flange too. Before it was a card width off the flange. But they said the belt hardly had any tension on it before. I had noticed though from before the adjustment and now, the rear wheel gets a lot dirtier with it right up against the flange. Not sure if it's dust from the belt or what but I may try to move it to the left just a little.

Mine is pretty much bang up to the flange, noticed this when I checked the front pulley for any wear the other day (none at all by the way after 10K miles).

Should I be worried about the proximity of the belt to the flange? If there was any gap it's pretty thin.

To me that's perfect not hitting the inner flange or running off the outer edge, also don't care where it goes when backing up cause I don't often drive down the road backwards, as long as that's about where it is whenever you check your good to go.

The dust may be your belt wearing on the flange. When new our machine had a rubber burning smell and excess dust accumulate on the rear wheel. Using the specs for belt clearance in the owners manual, the belt alignment was reset using math formula provided and ultimately typically runs with no flange contact on the front or rear pulley. With this and now the new lower belt tension spec, the belt tracks well and there is no steady vibration.

You more than likely correct. I've been smelling a burnt rubber smell at times and that would point to the belt rubbing the flange. I guess I'll adjust it tomorrow and move to the left a little.
