There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Parking brake! Wont lock/ really weak

Is it easy to adjust? Mine will not lock correctly or keep the bike from moving if I am on a hill. Im about to go for a ride with some friends, but wanted to ask this before I head out.

thanks

Yepper... at the rear wheel caliper... right side.

Adjust the cable only with the adjusters... just like throttle cables.

If more is needed, remove the parking brake arm (where the cable attaches) and move it a bit. The shaft it's mounted on is splined.

:agree: Just did this to mine today. PB all the way down and bike still rolled easily. Took the arm off as suggested above, rotated it 1 notch and adjusted cable. Now 1 click and I'm good. Still rolls free when released.

Great Tip!

I did the cable adjustment last week and it worked like a charm. I didn't ( so far ) have to do the arm adjustment.

Im going to try to adjust it tomorrow. I cant even park on a hill right now, something seems really messed up.

Probably not messed up, just worn a bit and cable stretched some. You likely have a great amount of park brake pedal travel, too. If so, it's time to adjust. Parking brake should be set in one or two clicks.

Thanks

I did this a few weeks ago, and its already getting worse again. Will the cable keep stretching until I run out of room to move the arm on the spline any further, and have to replace the cable? I've only got 2400 miles, and I don't even use the brake in the garage.

i just adjusted the cable, but it didnt help

EDIT

nevermind, GOT IT! Was going the wrong way

Good question above...will the thing keep loosening and always need to be tightened?

As (1) the cable stretches and (2) the rear brake pads wear, adjustments will be necessary.

Being careful to depress the parking brake only the amount actually needed also helps, once adjusted.

I also carry an inclined door stopper from Walleyworld. 98 cents, only problem, I forget to retreave them and have lost 2 already! Will get a string put on it when I get to Hazelton, PA at friend's house.

Mine has got to where it don't want to release for a week or so now, today I had to reach down and release the catch with my finger. Will adjustment fix this problem or is it a problem with grit or dirt, I did adjust it a little last weekend and it didn't help any.

Squirt some WD40 in the mechanism....that should free it up.

:agree: WD-40 works nicely, as do the Teflon sprays. BTW, if you have one of the earlier Spyders, the sticking parking brake may be eligible for replacement parts under warranty. Your dealer can look up your model ID and serial number in the service bulletin to check. Had ours replaced and haven't had to lube it since.

If I really push down on it, the bike doesn't go anywhere, even if I try to push it...

However, if I don't apply it enough, the bike will not hold...this happened at the gas station the other day...put the emergency brake down, turned to scan my credit card, grabbed the pump handle, turned around...and, guess what?? no bike...

It had rolled about 15 feet down the slight incline...I was able to get it, start it, and reverse it back up to the pump, but the incident was a bit embarrassing.

This is why I use the steering lock in conjunction with the emergency brake...figure two defenses is better than one!

Ordinarily though, the emergency brake holds just fine...just have to really lock it in...

Leave your SM5 in first gear when you stop. There'll be no rolling down slight inclines if its left in gear.
