There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Ramps or Stands?

I already have a similar lift to the Harbor Freight, but I am unsure whether to buy a pair of stands for the front to use with it, or whether to buy a pair of ramps and do without the lift altogether for the front.

Any major advantages of stands over ramps or vice versa for the Spyder?

RAMPS VS. STANDS

With ramps the front wheels MUST stay on .........I got a pair cheap at a lawn sale ....So I have both .....Mike

BOTH

I HAVE BOTH AND USE BOTH......
I HAVE THE HARBOR FREIGHT 'PLASTIC' RAMPS, AND THE THINGS THAT GOOD ABOUT THEM IS YOU CAN REMOVE THE ANGLED END WHICH GIVES YOU MORE ROOM TO WORK AROUND UNDER YOUR SPYD3R.... REMEMBER: ALWAYS APPLY YOUR 'E' BRAKE AND CHOKE THE REAR WHEEL...
SPYD3R

SPYD3R

I often feel like choking the rear wheel, Spyd3r.......maybe coz it's a Kenda :lecturef_smilie:

Thanks for the advice, guys. I keep forgetting how inexpensive things are today, now they come in plastic......problem solved.......I'll get both

Ramps can be hard to get the Spyder up due to rear wheel traction. I like my atv jack and jack stands.

I have metal ramps. I have jack stands. I have a motorcycle jack. I also have a pair of wooden ramps. Just depends on what you are doing. I can roll my '14RTL up on my wood ramps by just pushing it. On the wood ramps I can change oil no problem.

choices / preferences

I like to be able to turn the bars, remove the wheels have the extra room underneath....I work with the regular rolling jack, motorcycle/ATV lift and A stands.

Simple safe

Stands. Ramps are limited, and don't do what I need to do: be safe while working. Never seen ramps in a professional shop. Ever. Not OSHA, not as safe. JMHO, but I do hate pain!

Thanks Joe.......and, of course, I have just returned from buying ramps(they have also ordered stands for me). They only had heavy duty (4tonne), so hopefully they will be ok for the very few occasions that I use them (like seeing underneath so I can work out how to get that bloody plastic cover beneath the horn undone ) :gaah:

Should have bought the stands

The heavy duty plastic ramps are great, but useless in their current state as they have no rubber on the bottom of them, so they simply slide forward across the garage floor as the Spyder rolls onto them. Hardware shop visit tomorrow for some big rubber feet :banghead: Very poor design.

I'm new to Spyderdom. Where do I place my floor jack to raise the front of the RT and where do the stands go? Newbie here - pics would help

Ryde, eat, sleep... Repeat

I have both and use the jack for 99% of work. But I use the ramps for oil changes, easy and quick. I back the spyder up, change the oil and then drive off.

Which plastic ramps do you have?

Had some metal ramps when I was a teenager that were completely useless unless the driven wheels were going on them. Getting the front end of a RWD car onto them was almost impossible because they would slide across the garage floor. I bought some plastic ones in 2010 because they were rated for the 5,000 lb front axle of my Super Duty and have been nothing but impressed with them. Rubber pads on the leading edge, and they've never slid. Bought them at Wal-Mart, but I don't recall the brand. Don't think I'll ever own another metal set.

I just bought a couple of heavy duty rubber mats to put under them this morning, Tom, and they are solid as a rock now. I will have a go at glueing some rubber all around the bottom so I hopefully don't have to worry about the mats. I have also sealed my garage floor, which probably adds to the lack of traction.
