BRP Cares, please comment on the new line up.

Remember

If what I am told I'd true, the Spyder line is still not a money maker! When I heard that, my concern was how much longer will BRP endure losing money on a product line. The success or failure of this product line depends on how successful they are in penetrating the 95% of the American market that DOES NOT currently ryde motorcycles. They don't really care about sport bike riders, they care about those people that have always wanted to ride a motorcycle but weren't comfortable on two wheels. That is why the RT or similar models to follow will always be their market leader. That is why they added the top trunk to the F3. Do you know that they are going to be targeting CAR shows more? Why do you think they are so closely aligned with NASCAR? Because they are going after a new market. Not the 5% that ride motorcycles, a market flooded with Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Kawasaki, BMW, Triumph, Vision, Indian, Suzuki, etc etc etc. they want to dominate the rest of the buying public. So,and I hope I am wrong, we may be seeing the Spyder line of the future today. However, I do believe there will be an entry level Spyder introduced, perhaps in June 2107! Interesting times!

From what I can see, there are very few Spyders in the Tallahassee, FL area. I don't see that many on the road, but I could be wrong. When I am out there ryding around and when I go to the gas station, it generates a lot of interest. Just being seen on a Spyder is advertising for them. When I was shopping a few months ago, the biggest turn off for me was the price. $31,000.00 for an RT for me was out of the question. In fact, so was $ 25,000.00. I'm staring retirement in the face and I am not rich. But when the dealer mentioned leftover 2015's and the price weeeeellllllll, I am now a Spyder ryder.

In Fact

BRP has been conducting "private sales" in Florida and California. The concept is if some one has touched the BRP website in anyway expressing interest in a Spyder in either of those states, they are being invited to a private sales event at the local dealer. BRP has contacted local Ryding groups to participate in these events to act as Spyder Ambassadors. Our local chapter of SRA has been leading Demo rydes all over Northern California for the last couple of months. We take these folks and show them the ropes, lead them through the country side and answer questions. Then they speak to a sales person. If these events prove successful, you are not going to see the big BRP Semi full of spyders anymore. They have been dropping a few RTs and F3s (no RS or ST) and then pick them up after the demo weekend. Why Florida and California you ask? Because the sales of units in those two states are not what they should be when you consider the population and the year round Ryding conditions!

I am not suprised that they dropped those bikes but really hope they are working on an " entry level" spyder for those of us who are not able to drop 30k on a 6-8 month luxury. i love my gs but would already have an f3t if i could afford it

They dropped the price point on the base F3 to under 17k.

BRP's "Vision" is Hard to Comprehend

Interesting! And I believe you are probably right.

Here's one thing about BRP that puzzles me, however... Despite the temporary boom they got with the introduction of the new 1330 designs, we know that sales have dropped over the past few years, and it looks as though 2016 will be yet another down year for Spyder sales. If what you say is correct, in that the Spyder Line is still not a money maker after almost 10 years, then WHY did they just spend $14 million on the renovation of their "Museum of Ingenuity" in Valcourt? I admit that, over the years, they have displayed ingenuity that they can be proud of, but $14 million on renovations?? What's up with that? Was that decision based on some sort of "corporate vanity", or do they actually believe that investment will come back to them in future sales?

What's your take on that, Pirate?

Rob,
They build a whole heckuva lot more stuff, than just Spyders. (They've been a force in the snowmobile industry since the fifties...)
If the Museum covers all of their product lines and accomplishments: it'll be a "must-see"! :2thumbs:

I have no doubt that it is a "must-see". I'm looking forward to it. Especially after taking a look at their web site. I also know the different markets that BRP is into, and I imagine all or most of them have suffered in sales over the past 8 years or so. That's why I'm curious about the $14 million renovation expenditure at this particular time.

My guess is that they did it when they did simply because they could. Knowing, a few years back, that they were in need of an injection of capital, I'm thinking it was a sort of a "Let's do it while we still can" decision before they took the company public on the Canadian stock market. ;) I suspect the decision was made with little regard for conventional "return on investment" concerns. But as always, I could be wrong. :sour:

Here is your entry level Spyder.

The basic F3. Price reduced from 2016 model. Get in any color as long as it is black. Engine horsepower has been reduced. This is the replacement for the RS.

In addtion to the lower HP, its also got the smaller rear sprocket from the RT so less torque at the rear wheel. Wonder what else has been removed to achieve the lower price point?

I also notice the gloss black frame is gone as well as the silver castings. All are matte finish black now which look great on a black bike.

I did not pick up on the different rear sprocket. It's not on the spec sheet.

Says 105 HP at 6,000rpm Instead of 115 at 7,250 rpm ? Wonder what my 2015 F3 has at 6,000 rpm??? Probably NO more than 105. Torque for both 96 flbs.
$17,000 is what I paid for my 2009 GS SE5 and My 2015 F3 is Much More of a machine >IMHO?

If I were New to the Game I would Snap-Up that $16,999 F3 Real Quick- Its the Best Monetary Value IF you have Financial Limitations Which Many here Do Not!!!

Don't think they reduced the horsepower either.... Love the F3 but also love knowing there were other options.... RS, ST should all still be choices...
