Windshield Grumping

So, I was riding along, thinking. (1st mistake.)
Prolly should get Noboot's billet aluminum piece to replace flimsy windshield cam doohickey soon. Since I had one break and be replaced just 13 months ago, I figured I had time to contemplate and order one b4 any possible issues arise.

Wrong. WRONG!!! The warranty on parts is 12 months. (2nd mistake.) So, off course, the middle arm breaks almost as soon as I think about I should order it soon. Eggsactly one month over warranty term & anyway I can't find the reciept.

My local shop guy said they would install it, if I got the part. He also did the temporary fix with zip-strips. I have ordered the billet aluminum piece and Noboot (Ron) says it is on it's way! (1st Non-Mistake.) Just needed to vent about a part that only lasts for just a few months.......

WINDSHIELD ARM

:gaah::gaah::gaah:..... How this piece of CR*P part has gotten past the NHSTA for so long is beyond belief...... What it would take for BRP to PERMANENTLY fix this part is soooooooooooooooo simple it's laughable .... I'm fairly sure the ARM is a sand casting .....soooooooooooo BRP calls the people who do the sand casting .........annnnnnnnnnd say ......Hey fill in those triangles with some sand and then make them that way from now on. I don't think they would break anymore.......But I'm not an engineer with 5 degree's so why would this even be considered.............and it hasn't because BRP is still making them the way they did in 2010 ........... jmho..........rant over........Mike :thumbup:

Actually, I knew that and did that. I'm thinking that it didn't really have a chance against Michigan's awful roads. I hope the repair guy is still willing to install the billet aluminum piece that's coming. Sometimes they're flakier than I am.....

There have been a few dealers that have been happy to install one of my Alloy RT arm instead of the OEM arm at the request of the Rider and save a heap of $$'s in doing so.

Make sure your repair guy has viewed the video we made to help with the replacement, otherwise it makes the job longer and can cost you more money in labour time. Cheers, noboot

thank you sir. another tidbit not revealed to me. i always run w/mine
down thinking that less air pressure will make w/shield parts last

I hear of this happening on 2010 models but not so much on newer models. Was there some kind of change made or do those of us with newer models (I have a 2012) need to be mindful of this also. I now have 22650 on Charlotte with no signs of any cracking. I also have always ridden with the windshield just a tick off of bottom or top.

I practiced that technique religiously since the machine was new. It broke anyway. I'm trying to bust this myth. Is there an emoji for that?

So far, no problems, knock wood. Have had 2010, 2011, and 2014 RT's. No issues with any. The 2010 made it to 36,500 miles before being sent down the road as a trade. The 2011 and 2014 are still daily riders. 46K miles between them.

We do ride with the windshields "up a notch" when they are in the lowest position. Don't know that it's the answer, but--no problems yet. :thumbup:

THE UP A NOTCH MYTH

I practiced that technique religiously since the machine was new. It broke anyway. I'm trying to bust this myth. Is there an emoji for that?

Back a few years ago ...prior to " No Boots " miracle aluminum arm :yes::yes::yes:...... I made a steel cover for mine......But that's not the story....... In my testing process I discovered that the ARM when fully lowered doesn't actually rest on that plastic " protrusion / stop thing " .... I put a piece of saran type wrap on it and lowered the ARM ....the wrap fell out ........It's like an elevator .... nothing comes out from the wall to stop it , not even on the bottom floor. It's an electrical signal just like the Spyder's, although the Spyder's also involve a Magnet..........Mike :thumbup:

In 2011 they made the windshield a bit narrower than it was in 2010. That may have something to do with it.
