• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Weird sounds...

I have a couple of questions about my new Spyder, I think from what I have read, I know the probable culprit is the belt/tension. Question is how do I diagnose it for sure and how can I fix it.
The first is a harmonic sound from about 45 - 50 mph...very loud, under throttle or not, coasting, it doesn't matter, have to get above 50 to make it stop.
The Second is a vibration at about 70 - 75 only if I let off the throttle. Cruising is fine, but if I let off the gas I get this vibration.

Like I said, from what I have read it is probably both related to the belt, but how can I be sure...and how can I fix...is this time for a dealer visit ?

Just relax, and ride the bike for a while. When you take it in to the dealer for the break-in servicing; that'd be the time to mention it.

That was my plan, just wanted to throw it out there in case it was more of an issue...

It's most likely nothing other than "New Owner Jitters"...
We've all seen, AND experienced it! :D
The belts are the most common source of harmonic vibrations, and they are just an annoyance; not a problem.

i have yet to experience the vibration problem. maybe just lucky. theres
always the smooth syder tensioner you can put on. wonder how fast that little wheel is
spinning and how long it lasts? how bout it, you people who have one?

Mine sets up a vibration in the 75 to 79mph range...
It stops, and then comes back from 81, to 84 mph!
Since both of these speed ranges are WAY above my normal cruising speeds: I've been willing to overlook this issue...

A common question, so do not be alarmed. I would also recommend bringing it to the attention of the dealer the next time you bring it in for servicing.

We experience no vibes, but most of the time, the :spyder2::ani29:'s do not see anything north of 70 mph.

I don't get up there often either, just when on the interstate..the one for 45 to 50 is the one that really bothers me...the pitch of it is awful...

Little checking..

Fast check on the belt...if you can twist it 90° or to where it is straight up and down it is too loose. If you can't twist it at all it is too tight....you do this in the middle of the swingarm. but if you are not adjusting it then test it and take it to the dealer to adjust....

different bikes, different speed for vibration

As some may know, I have had two brand new bike in 2 weeks.
The 2016 RT-S had the vibration at 123 km/h. (76 mph) to 127 km/h, then it went away. (We were in Montana with an 80 mph speed limit). This was fine as it was above my normal riding speed.

The 2017 RT-S has the vibration at 103 km/h. (64 mph) to 109 Km/h. This is a bit more of annoyance as a lot of hwy's here are between 100 - 110 Km/h. In my short time on a spyder, I have learned just to ride through it. (Either ride below, or get above it). it does not bother me enough to get the smooth belt.

its ok

It's just spyders. They make noises that will drive you crazy till you get use to them. Especially if you come off a bike that had a drive shaft on it. Like a wing or something. we have all been there. Our 2011 rt sounds like a race car running compared to the 1800 wing we had. just remember that all questions will be answered on here. So keep asking. We will try to help. but do check the tension of the belt. Happy Riding.

Excellent tip that I have not heard before. Thanks Gene!

I've had mine since new. Over 4000 miles now. It does not get rid of all vibes. Mine will vibe around 72-80 mph and always on decell. I've tried all tension levels. They are built well though.
