Top Speed

What is the top speed of the Spyder. I thought it was limited at 180km/h (110mph) but have read posts about riders going faster. Know don't get me wrong, I'm more the "cruiser" type, so I don't realy want to get out there ring this thing out just to find out. But I do often get asked that top speed question. So how fast is fastest

The '110 limit' is just a stupid rumor being spread by dealers.

There is no speed limiter on the Spyder - there is a rev limiter.

I've hit 128 mph according to the Spyder speedometer - which is a bit off of the real speed that my GPS shows - so I'm thinking real-world speed was around 123.

There was a bit more to go - but not much. I'm guessing 135 +- depending on conditions and rider weight.

I have hit 130 on the speedo, down a hill without the wheelchair on the back, there is about 6mph of speedo error. that is at about 9-9.5 on the revs.

Assuming that the RPM limiter is at 10k (as i've read), and since the bike clocks 69 mph at 5k RPM, top speed should be limited by RPM at 138 mph, assuming there's enough power available to overcome drag and rolling friction at that speed. I have not been there myself, maybe someday. But based upon how quickly and easily my Spyder reached 100 the other day, even while riding two up, I suspect it should be able to get there.

there isn't enough power in your spyder, run mine as hard as you can. the cut out of one cylinder is 10.5 rev's. Don't believe me , try it, there are three car tires under you. my zx 12 with 195hp to the rear tire could not break 200mph true speed and it weights under 500 pounds do the math.

I'm with ya on that...

I've seen and heard of the bike at 110 with plenty more to go...138 sounds like a lot but I can easily see 135-140 as an upper limit...and it would get there pretty darn fast too...

I just had a visual of Cutter John roaring down a hill in Bloom County in the Starship Enterpoop with Opus and the gang aboard.

Imagine what Cutter John could have done with a Spyder !!!

:joke:

I don't know top speed, but have taken mine to 115 once and 117 once, so I can tell you it will go there, had quite a bit left on the throttle as well.

Exact same for me 128 but im not sure I trust that to be dead on accurate, I seem to go just abit further between gas stops on my trip odometer then everyone else im riding with, but that gives a rough idea what its got.

Did it feel OK at that or did it get all twitchy. Any sign of the "wobbles" when you back off.

At 300lbs it will hit 120-124 on the speedo but had nothing left in it with my size pushing it hard... :2thumbs:

I had my :spyder2: up to 250 mph...but then I woke up and was SOOOO disappointed!!! :yikes:

Ah...but I do love my Spyder! nojoke

I haven't had too much touble with wobbles, I have got it to shift some going over small hills at 115ish. you get some play when it lands but not too bad, just like corners at over 105 and you hit bad tar you will shift hard. Both the limp mode issues(had to shut it down and because the module came loose, plugged it back in and away I went) were from the shaking in courners or high speed (for a spyder) stuff.

I'm very capable of doing virtually any math and/or the physics that demands it, yet I do not see relevance with your analogy. Educate me?

I haven't done a lot of 2 wheel riding. You sound like you have had a lot of fast riding experience. (I have seen some of your videos )
How does the Spyder compare in the faster stuff.

had mine up to 128 got pulled over and got a warning could of got $600 ticket and loss of licens the tropper never seen a spyder and liked my  spyder and gave me a warning for beeing truthfull told him 128 to 130 .
he was nice to me
thank god but she felt good on the high way smooth handles nice . next time I get cought ill tell him:shemademe_smilie:yes:shemademe_smilie: lol

Lucky, lucky, lucky

cars don't cut the wind they are wayyy more aerodynamic, bikes have much more touble breaking the 200 mph, the force you need to over come this is related to the power/weight ratio is what the math is I am talking about. The spyder is underpowered and is not geared right IMO. "do the math" is a analogy that my paintball buddies and I use.

The Spyder is more stable that 2 wheel stuff but i can not relate it to my two wheel stuff because IMO 150mph is the basic standard of "fast" when it comes to bikes.

As when I talk to people that ask me "is that snowmobile on wheels fast"
Fast is a relative term, what is slow to a top fuel drag bike racer is fast as F#ck to me. It is quick off the line, I will give it that.

This is all from my expirence on bikes, not what my friends did or what I read on the interweb, If someone has more expirence than me on this, I am all ears, as doing quarter mile at BIR next wednesday should know more on what it will do then.
