Should I Buy a Spyder

Hi All...
I have been looking for a "Bike" for my wife for the last year... actually bought her a HD Sportster that I have recently sold...

She is vertically challenged... 5'3" and is not a fan of "shifting"

We have recently looked at Ridleys... but we both think they are kind of Ugly..

Surfing the internet I stumbled upon the Spyder... we both like the styling and the SE5 sounds like something that she would enjoy...

My worry from reading a few of the posts on the forum... is that there are reliability issues...
I know this is a Internet forum where some are quick to post the negative and slow to talk about the positives...

So my question is are these "Great Roadsters" with a few isolated issues...
or are we looking at something that we will regret latter?

Thanks in advance for you Honest feedback!

i had all kinda problems with my spyder and still dealing with them BUT,
i will buy another spyder if i had to do it again.
i am one of the "lucky" ones who got a bad apple but most do not have much problem.

I think she will love it. I can't remember a post saying "I hate this thing - somebody take it off my hands". Be ready to spend a couple grand on mods. Almost everybody eventually adds risers, foot pegs, windshield, mirror extensions, and then bags. Maybe some lights too. After (and before) those mods its a fun, safe, unique ride.:2thumbs:

Had my spyder 6 weeks now, and 1000 miles. No regrets, would still like to add two wheeled bike to garage again someday, but the enjoyment I get from the Spyder fades that away.

No major issues in the first 1k other than my 12volt outlet being bugged up and that is a simple fix.

I feel safer on it after my three two wheeled accidents, and you just can't beat the spyder for touring, or running to the store.

YES

My wife is 4'11" tall and had trouble holding a two wheeler up SOOOO a Spyder rider was born. She got hers the second week of Sept. and now has 7900 miles on hers. I got mine a week later and have 7400 on mine. We rode them to Daytona last march(650 miles in one day) and she did better that I did.
Yes we've have had problums but still love them Spyders!! I have a Softail Harley and it just sits in the garage. Love them Spyders!! Go tke a demo ride to see if she likes the :spyder:.

You gotta get one

:spyder:The problem is you just can't get much of an idea by doing a few test rides. It takes a while to get used to riding a Spyder. At first it just feels plain strange, but after doing a few hundred Km it all starts to get better. And after a few thousand Km it starts to become real fun. I have had mine about 3 months and I am constantly looking for an excuse to ride it. (5500Km in three months)
Its not like anything else I have ever ridden. (An ATV is sorta similar but not the same by a long shot)
I would buy another one in a heart beat, no doubt about that :ohyea:

I have an SM5 and have had no issues. I can't speak for the SE5 though.

:2thumbs: Great machine !! Have 09 SE5, no problems after 4 months. I am waiting for 2010 Touring :spyder2: to come out.

Nancy is 5'2", and never rode anything but a Honda Trail 90 before the Spyder. She considered waiting for the SE5 to be introduced, then decided to get the SM5 because she could do so months sooner. She was intimidated by the clutch, despite having a stick shift classic car. When she took her MSF course on two wheels, they spent lots of time on the clutch, friction point, and shifting. By the end of the second day it was very natural for her. A few days of parking lot practice on the Spyder, and she was ready for the street. She has never regreted buying the manual, and has been right there in my rearview mirrors ever since. The Spyder concept makes the rest of the riding experience so comforting that one need not worry about the added task of shifting. It becomes very natuaral when you can leave your foot right there next to the shifter all the time, even when stopped.

30,000 miles in a year and a half and the only issues I've had have been self inflected. Take a chance and go for it, :doorag:

We've owned two Spyders for just over a year. 15,000 + miles on mine and 18,000 + miles on hers. I have only had a single issue that grounded my Spyder and that was for only one day (exhaust gaskets burned up, exhaust leak). My wife's has been laid up in the shop on two occasions for a week or less. Once for dash / gauge problems and once for oil pressure sensor. We both really like our Spyders and would definitely buy them again.

I've had my SE5 for 3 months now almost 3K miles and no problems at all. I never regretted my purchase.

Have you test rode one yet? If not, you should.

welcome Have never regretted a minute of my time with my :spyder2:. Have had a few problems with my SM5 but all in all my dealer and BRP have taken care of the problems for me. My wife loves the :spyder: and we plan on a second in the future (have to pay off either a car or the :spyder2: first). When we get hers we will be doing so extensive travelling on them. Great ryde; a lot of fun and a real crowd pleaser -- Just be prepared to answer questions at every pit stop.

NO DON'T Buy. UNLESS:
You want to have alot of fun.
You want to be noticed by others.
You are a pace setter.
You want peace of mind of stability.
You want to not having to put your feet down at stops.
You...... well I guess I could fill the page, but since you are here on Spyderlovers you have taken the first step to read most of the Negatives and Positives. As for me, if it were not by accident in seeing the spyder, I would not be riding today.
