I can't recommend enough the Universal Plug-n-Play Wiring Harness for Motorcycle Air Horn

you can buy on Amazon for $21.95. It makes the install very easy and has a heavy-duty 30 Amp relay built in. It's plug-n-play folks! No cutting, splicing and/or soldering. Very easy!

I used one on my '13 RTL when I installed the Stebel air horn.

I intalled my Stebel without that wiring harness and it works just fine. I sent the harness back and got a refund. I rode the :spyder2: in a parade yesterday and was laying on the horn. No blown fuses.

I replaced the stock horn with the Stebel air horn on my 2015 RT. Super easy remove 1 panel on left side and horn is right there. Simply unbolt stock horn and plug in Stebel horn. Did not use relay kit and have had no problems. And it is very loud.

Stebel horn

Stebel horn ( relay or not ) is loud, easy to install, I think it's best with the relay but it either way, it's loud ( or did I say that before?
Don't stand in front of the horn when testing. Even wearing earplugs is a good idea. I have 2 Stebels and one "bad boy",------ Stebel is louder.

That's why yours is so loud :roflblack: 3 horns on 1 Spyder. :yikes:

I choose to always use a harness with a relay. the stock horns probably pull about 5amps, but the air horn 15 to 18amps. the problem is not the wiring failing, it's that the motorcycle's horn button is directly wired to take the horn's current. It is not designed for 15amps. Horn buttons are known to fail under those conditions over time and replacement is a very expensive and involved operation.

I recently bought a stebel brand horn from Amazon and it came with the relay so I bought the inexpensive plug n play (made by wolo) harness that did not come with the relay

I checked Amazon and not all the stebel's have the relay included.
the more expensive harnesses do include it.

check that whatever you purchase, you get everything you need including a relay.

yeah, good advice not to stand in front of that horn when testing...I remember having my bike parked in my one car enclosed garage and it going off unexpectedly on installation...wow, I didn't let that happen again LOL

the best to everyone

I'll add a bit to this that might save you some wiring. The handle bar cluster horn button switches the GROUND side of the circuit. The horn is fed 12v power directly from a 25 amp fuse so no need for a separate power feed. Just use the relay to provide the high current GROUND side of the circuit to protect the factory button. This way the cluster switch only sees the current to feed the relay, not the horn.

Oh, and installing one on the F3 is really easy, its on the bottom inside the right hand front suspension. The new horn fits the factory bracket just fine.

Did you need to make a bracket, or were you able to use the stock bracket.

On the plug -n-play harness does this plug into the original wires. I have not purchased anything yet and any and all additional information that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help, Dave. I have a 2013 RT Limited

I used all the stock wire connections and stock mount to mount my WOLO Horn.. Guess it depends on the horn you buy on the mounting and harness if needed.

my stock horn (2014 RT) had two very thin, sandwiched together, flat metal straps for a mount. For the weight of the air horn, they are not adequate. Plus, you'll see when you test it, it really jerks around from the momentum of the impeller spinning around pushing the air out.

as far as wiring, the horn will work using stock wiring. there are 2 spade connectors to the stock horn. They weren't long enough to reach the spades on my air horn when mounted, so I made spade to spade extensions. polarity matters...black wire is negative...the horn has to spin the right way to make noise.

I just think wiring it with the current going through the machine's horn button can damage it over time. that's what adding a wiring kit with relay avoids. the relay has 4 wires. there are 2 wires to the battery and 2 wires to the wires that went to the stock horn. the battery is "in" the frunk on my 2014, so the relay and wiring is in there.

wiring kit without relay (my stebel horn included relay): http://www.amazon.com/Wolo-MCHWK-2-Air-Horn-Wiring/dp/B005I4DNP2

pick something like this for the bracket:

GOOD LUCK :D

Yes. It plugs in-line with the original. It also has a wire that goes to the battery. A very easy install.

Any of you guys installed a PIAA Slimline horn ?
Had one on my FJR1300, didn't need a relay cause it was a low current draw, and was wondering if it's a fit for the Spyder.

any electric (vibrating) horn would be just fine...Fiamms, PIAA'S, etc would all work and draws much less current than a air horn
IMHO

Most of the electric horns can't match the sheer amount of sound produced by an air horn...
If I could; I'd have THIS underneath the Tupperware!
