Maintenance Plan Cost?

Hello,

So I took my 2015 RT by the dealer for the 3K service today. The initial service plus parts was estimated to cost $450.

The rep told me I could still get the service plan if I wanted. The cost for the service plan is $2,411. It is good for 3 years & 6 services.

1) I didn't ask...but are all the services the same price? Is the 9K service more expensive?

2) Is $2,411 a good price for service plan? For the plan to be worth it you would have to drive around 35K in the three year people to get in the 6 services.

Any feedback?

That would average to about $401 per service. And that is of you put enough miles on to get all 6 services in the 3 years. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Your 15 doesn't need valve adjustments.

FIRST SERVICE

My dealer charged me $175.00 for my first service, that was on a 2013 RT-S SE-5, I didn't think that was bad at all..I know the 1330 would be a little more..

I would not do it. A friend of mine did it. He did not ride very often and he moved. It was only good at that dealer and got 2 service out of it

:agree::agree::agree::agree:.......I also have the 1330 engine with the SE trans....It now has 19,000 + miles and I haven't brought it in for any service work.......I have maintained it according to the manual and kept all the receipts.......Good Luck.......Mike

Thanks for that Highwayman, I will query this with the dealer:thumbup:

Good catch highwayman.

He's right the first service is at 3000 miles and second service is 9300 miles later, not at 9300 miles. Definitely check with dealer and see what they meant......

I think I replied to your question on a Facebook page but I will repeat it here. I have several friends that purchased a maintenance plan and all are regretting it. The biggest reason is that they are stuck with dealers that have less than great service departments. The price you were quoted seems really high to me.

My dealer, ProShop Motorsports in Henderson, NV, refuses to sell maintenance plans because he said they are just a rip off for the customer.

If you notice here the only service that includes more than an oil change is the 12k in which they replace the brake and coolant fluids. assuming those are British pounds that comes up to around $450. My dealer wanted $400 on my RS to just do the 3000 mile service, which is why i learned to change the oil on my own and never having done it before took me about 20-30 minutes. Of course the panels are easy to remove on the RS and the New RT i got they look like a pain. Im going to have to figure it out sooner or later though.

I don't know what is different about Spyders sold for use on the east side of the pond but over here there is no 12,000 mile service. The 9,300 or 1 year is the first big one after the 3,000 miler and the next is at 19,000 miles. I suggest you check your Operator's Guide for the service intervals. On our side they appear at the beginning of the Maintenance section of the guide.

Thanks for that JayBros. I will get Geoff (OJ UK) to advise me about services and his opinion on the above copy of email from dealer.
I am grateful for the responses on here to the copy of email from dealer about services and all is noted. Thank you

I am going to disagree with the service intervals above. Per the service manual--the intervals should be...

3500 Initial oil change service.

9300 miles later (12,300 or so) another oil change service.

Then--every 9300 miles or once a year--which ever comes first.

It is looking like the dealer above is still in the 3500 mile groove.

Thank you for this Akspyderman, armed with info from you and other Spyder owners I can now challenge the dealer and use my service book too as a back up

Interesting that the price jumps 100 pounds between the first and second service and all they add is belt service.

The dealership is in Leeds? I live in Harrogate for almost 3 years....February 2005 - December 2007.

And there really is no belt "service" unless its loose, or tight. Just inspection to make sure its within range which i assume consists of pushing on it with your fingers :)
