So I'm Full Of Questions Today - Tire Balance

Well, if you haven't figured it out from my posts today -- its about time for a rear tire on my wife's Spyder.

I know that many of you like the ride on beads for balancing.

I have always been skeptical of that idea (and beads have been around for decades)

However, as a general rule I have always had my motorcycle tires static balanced (years ago with the narrower tires -- I didn't even do that.

So on the forum here, are most tires static balanced? or are they dynamic balanced?

The guy who changes mine (Derek, at Netzley Tire); static balances them. I've never had a problem! :thumbup:

at least I call it spin balanced. I static balance many many tires in my time in the shops and never had a problem with doing it that way. If mounted correctly using the tire marks there will be little or no change in the balance...:thumbup:

Started to use Dynabeads a couple months ago. So far no problems runs smooth, no vibration at speeds up to 85 so far. Will post if any problems show up, but I don't anticipate any. :2thumbs:

I just put the proper amount of (motorcycle formula) "Ride On" sealant liquid purchased off ebay and it balances the wheel plus seals punctures all in one product. Even if my wheels are balanced by the tire mounter, I still like the product for the puncture sealant quality.
NEVER PUT "SLIME" IN YOUR WHEEL...it is corrosive and non water soluble and makes a complete mess.
Ride On will not harm metal wheels and can just be washed out when dismounting a tire.

When I put a car tire on I just had the local tire store mount it. Since none of their balance machines would fit the wheel I had them use Dynabeads. It has been over 5000 and the tire still rides smooth.

did you have to remove the pulley sprocket ???

I like using ride on in my tires
Even if the rear wheel is balanced it is normally done without the rear sprocket on so that will change the balance once you bolt the sprocket to the wheel

I'm using beads in all 3 tires. The rear one has beads for over 15,000 miles.

And I am getting MUCH better miles of wear. Front OEMs are at 15k and lots of tread left. Just put beads in new rear Khumo (which replaced a 20k Khumho. Will let you know. But for me and my Spyder it is the glass beads all around

:agree:...........My last two rear tires changes one a General , and the other a Michelin I didn't balance either of them. About 18,000 on each and no issues. I think the rear axel and the way it's mounted makes a difference in whether balancing is needed..........jmho.........and also Al's above ......Mike

I static balance them myself and then install the wheel. They run smooth. No need for beads.
