Don

The article doesn't say what type of 3 wheel motorcycle, unless of course you have seen other articles with more specifics. It doesn't really matter though an accident is an accident, a rider was hurt and hopefully not too bad, we all pray for a speedy recovery.

Wow! I live here in Houston and didn't hear about this one. Hopefully the rider is gonna be OK. Prayers sent....

Another rear ender. Watch those mirrors and have a potential escape route. Cagers :banghead:

Yep.... So many of them in the last year. Almost all of the reported accidents is a car rear ending a Spyder. Two deaths already in the last 8 months from this!

I sure hope they check the drivers phones!

It is a big worry of mine since I commute on a stop and go freeway every day. A week ago I had a guy lockup his brakes behind me and then about 4 cars back a car rear ended another in that chain. I had no way out other than the space I gave myself to move forward. We cannot lane split on these things so it makes it a very dangerous situation!

I have commuted this same freeway for 30 years. One thing I have noticed is in the last year the amount of rear end collisions has gone way up! You use to see them once a week. Now it is almost every day!!!!!

This distracted driving thing with people on their phones (not hands free) texting or whatever is becoming a huge problem in my area :banghead:

Thoughts and :pray: go out to the victim.

Sad about the rear enders. I am thinking that distracted driving (cell phones mostly) is the root cause.

Our city council approved a new penalty and they are going to enforce it because the council needs to raise funds. Cell phone use is now considered a misdemeanor and is subject to a $500 ticket--NOW. Before, it was a year in jail and up to a $10K fine. No one was convicted under the old statute.

Know it all too well...

Distracted driver, August of last year, rear ended me while I was stopped. Over $3,000 in damage..but I was uninjured.

I agree Bob. Distracted driving and excessive speed.......... very dangerous for us. We are plenty big enough (as wide as some cars).... so if they say they could not see us....something else was going on.

Ride safe everyone ! :thumbup::pray:

Sad

Sad to hear about this accident and I hope the Spyder owner has a quick recovery.
I now have a Sena 10c attached to my helmet and this purely is to record footage whilst I am riding. I am hoping drivers will see camera on my helmet. I will buy a high vis vest with the words " Triker with Camera" printed at back and the vest will go over my leather jacket.
Although camera is facing forward, I need to think about how I can record video footage from rear of Spyder, due to past rear end accidents mentioned on SL.
Attached is pics of camera on helmet.

Accident

There was a motorcycle crash at Beltway 8 and I 45 on the south side of Houston on Thursday. Police had the on and off ramp blocked. The rider was laying in the middle of the access lane with a sheet over them. The rider's sport bike was about 100-150 feet from them in the middle of the lane. Police must have been waiting for the coroner to arrive. It appear to be a one vehicle accident.

I hate going on the Pierce Elevated even in a car. Did it once on a motorcycle, but traffic and our lead bike were good. Never again. There are ways to avoid that stretch of road.

Prayers going out to the Spyder Ryder...

Look at the picture, if you click on it enlarges. IMO if the driver would have had a seat belt, he wouldn't have went what appears over /thru the windshield. That alone would mess you up not counting smacking another car or the pavement. I put seat belts on my RTS, I know that I will be hurt flying, probably more than the injury of staying with the bike. There is no way that you could "hang on" when hit. Hopefully, I won't have my own picture to prove my theory.

Are the seat belts standard BRP stock on your RTS or aftersales accessory? Reason for asking I didn't know you could have a seatbelt on a Spyder. One thing I like about SL is you learn something new everyday :2thumbs:
