• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2 belt tension questions:

Before I purchase the SmoothSpyder for my wife's F3, I have two questions:

1. I'm going to take it into the dealer to have the belt tension verified to be in range. I've read that increasing or decreasing the tension (still in range) will change the mph at which the vibes occur. To RAISE the mph of the vibes, do we increase or decrease the tension? Now the main vibes are felt at about 67 mph.

2. Should the dealer do the tension check on a cold belt or on a freshly driven belt? I know that different manufacturers specify differently and I want to make sure we follow protocol.

After I'm satisfied that the belt tension is where we want it, I'll install the SmoothSpyder under those optimal conditions.

As I understand the Service Bulliten should a customer complain then the adjustment will be made. With that said I installed the Smoothspyder on both our F3s with the belt tension being what was set at time of purchase, before Service Bulliten. When I took them for the 3k service I informed the service tech that In had a belt tensioner and did not want the belt adjusted, it was not an issue. I have had my bike up to 100 mph with no issues with belt vibration at any speed with the Smoothspyder tensioner.

I waited for the SmoothSpyder tensioner. I kept in contact with Jim until he said he had it right. I purchased it right away but I didn't get the chance to install it for a couple weeks. I had already had my 3000 mile service done, installed the unit and I have to agree with fencepost, I have been up near 100 mph with no vibration at all since the install. I am a happy camper.

Where do you get one?

Where can you purchase a Smooth Spyder belt tensioner? Is it so technical to install that I should go to a dealer to install it? My vibration is about 73 to 78 mph. Hey that's the highway speed limit around here. Just my luck! I have a 2015 RTL

They are one of our sponsors .................. the instructions are pretty straight forward and it comes with a scale to correctly set the tension when you get it installed. If your belt seems tight (not much up and down play) I would suggest loosening the belt 1/2 turn of the adjusters, to give enough play in the belt for the tensioner to do it's job.

If you can turn a wrench you can do the install. You can contact Jim @ Smoothspyder and have him e-mail you the instructions to determine if this would be in your wheel house.

Thanks for the responses, but no one has answered either of my 2 questions!.........cold vs warm and increase vs decrease tension.
