There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Battery Tenders

I just purchased my first Spyder in May. I never owned a mororcyle before. I never heard a a battery tender before that. I saw somewhere on here that if you make the trunk cigarette lighter live full time by moving a fuse, you can plug your battery tender or battery minder into the jack after each ride. My question before I do this is it safe and is there a better way to accomplish this. That seems very simple but I am new to this. Thanks in advance.

Depends..!

it is an easy fast and safe way to do it. There are others like direct to the battery. If your ryding during your ryding season you should not need the tender unless you put her in storage. Make sure it is a tender/maintainer and not a charger/trickle charger.

What many have said is that you can flip a fuse around to make the cigarette lighter socket in the trunk stay "hot" when the bike is off. By doing this, you can plug the tender into that socket with the adapter. What I did was intall the battery tender harness directly to the battery so I can plug it in that way. This is my preferred method, and personally I think the best method.

You will hear others say that this is too much trouble and it's just as well to just plug into the cigarette lighter socket. How you ultimately do it is up to you.

I also have the direct pigtail to the battery that mates with my tender. It lays under the seat until I need it. Secure and hidden away, and direct to the issue at hand....the battery. This will be my first winter with the Spyder, but I've owned other bikes, and this has been a proven method for me.

When you say direct connect to the battery, are you connecting the ring battery tender terminal harness with fused 2-pin quick disconnect plug (#081-0069-6) to the battery terminals?

When I had my RT-S at the dealer for the CB install, I purchased a Battery Tender cord and had him run it back and up underneath the seat. This makes it easy for not only the Tender, but my wife can plug in her Gerbing heated vest. AND, as an aside.........I tapped my trailer wiring harness into the Tender cord between the battery and the built in cord fuse. It saved me a lot of extra work with the harness hookup.

What Pam says is important....change the fuse if you are going to plug into the cigarette lighter socket in the trunk. If you don't, you will run the battery down. I do it this way as it is easy to plug in when I get into my trunk to get my gun, knife, water bottle, Wild Turkey and other necessary travel items.... I have used Battery Tenders for years with no problem. I plug in when I don't plan on riding for a few days. I have a pig tail on my Gold Wing and a second BT.

I suggest the Deltran Battery Tender Junior. It comes with a quick disconnect. You attach one side to the battery and leave it there. When you are done riding.....just plug it in. Ready to ride....unplu and go ! Your battery is always fresh and you will find the battery will last longer.

I have used this for 20+ years on everything with a battery. A bonus....a lot of the mini-tire inflators use the same plug. So my tire inflator will plug into the same cable coming off the battery.

Pigtail attachment and Deltran Battery Tender are the perfect combination.

Our pigtail on the 2011 is under the seat. The pigtail on the 2014 is in the frunk.

Both will be plugged in at season end--about 6 weeks and counting. :(

Both :ani29: will take their long winter nap until March or so. They usually start instantly.

Before plug in--they both go on at least a one hour ride on the highway, get a full tank of high test, and are dosed with Stabil.
