• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

welcome wolfshead1

Take both SE-5 and the SM-5 for a test ride then decide which suits you best ( Ihave SM-5 and love it)
I'd go for the '09 if the price is right and definitly check the price of the extra 3yr warranty. (Very good option with all this electronics)
Accessories can wait, if price is an issue, can always be added later
( I did have hindle and sport rack/back rest installed before I picked bike up)

Anyway, do your homework, and I wish you the best....(Silver is fastest)

welcome
i am so so so glad i bought a spyder despite all the problems and would buy it again
09
se5
phantom panels seems hard to keep it clean (finger prints etc.)
as much as you can(dealer will give you good deal on accessories and labor at the time of purchase)
depends. i would probably make enough changes on my spyder to void the warranty. if not i would say yes. repairs are expensive.

For myself I would buy an 09. Try both the SM5 and SE5 and see which one you prefer. Seeing that you already ride a bike, shifting should not be a problem.

I would definitely buy the extended warranty.

As for accessories, it really is a personal choice, I am very happy with my hindle, anti-vibe kit and corbin seat.

Oh and by the way... welcome

If you like shifting gears, you'll like the SM5. If you want more of a car-like feeling, go with the SE5. They're both great and you'll love whatever you buy...

If you buy a Spyder that is not assembled yet, and you want the foglights installed by the dealer, buy them now. Much easier for the dealer to install with the trunk already off before setup...and cheaper, too.

welcome:congrats: What ever you get, get the B.E.S.T. warranty should cover you for 5 years . Also less expensive to buy at time of purchase.

I think you have rec'd some good advice. I can only add how you will be looked at by the Harley community. I ride with LOT of Harley folks and they always enjoy seeing my :spyder:..asking questions, etc. You will still be welcomed in their community, I'm sure... (can't say how any of the 1% MC would react... :dontknow:).

welcome

If they are discounting the 08 or offering some insintives i would probably go that route to save a few bucks for accessories.....

As for accessories at the time of purchase...This is rider preference. I wouldn't go all out on BRP accessories as there is so many aftermarket lower cost/ better products on the market. I would say put some miles on it stock see what you like/don't like and adjust accordingly. I have a long list of all my accessories in my Signature for what i like and made me comfortable.

Extended Waranty is a definate if you plan on keeping the spyder over the 2 year mark.

Welcome to SpyderLovers wolfshead1, good luck with your buying decision. :spyder:

What a great bunch, thanks for your help.Atadude and Lamonster it was very helpful talking to you and much appreciated,

thanks again

I second . . . . . .

. . . try both the SM5 and SE5, each calls for a different posture and one will probably feel like a better fit. Go for the best fit, otherwise you will be tweaking everything to get it in balance with your body. The SE5 worked best for me and I get a kick out of the electronic assisted shifting, though I still miss a clutch every so often.

I think the most important add-on is THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! I have had no problems, but this could more ( a lot more ) than pay for itself.

After that, depending on what you are used to on your Harley, a different windshield. I still have not found the right one for me. In-city driving is fine, but expressway still does not work.

As for missing your Harley, she maybe your first love, but I have found I ride my Spyder more than I drive or ride my other bike.

Good luck and welcome to the club.
Tom

welcome! It all depends - will you miss shifting on the Harley? Then get an SM. Love mine!:2thumbs: Traded in a softail for it.

I sold the SM to get the SE and to tell you the truth I love it. I play with it as if it was a manual and personally I think it is much quicker than an SM. I have kept pace on curves with an RC and GT Bimmer. Modification included sway bar ( excellent ) from Ken, air intake, Leo Vince exhaust, HIDs, wheels and have taken it to 120mph in a matter of seconds.
Have not tried top speed yet.
Still miss ridin 2 wheeler.

welcome
