Any Ideas on getting better radio quality at highway speeds. At above 50 I can only make out a word or two and at 70 it's just noise. Wish there was a headphone jack so could wear ear buds. My old Goldwing had excellent quality at most all speeds although my Harley Electra glide was pretty much like my Spyder.

Better speakers can help...
Although the REALLY hot setup is to use a Bluetooth setup, and pipe it right into your helmet! :D

Go with the better speakers (BLUEKNIGHT911) or bluetooth it. I find that through the helmet speakers is the best..jmo not crazy about piping music to the whole neighborhood...:roflblack:

Aside from which brand to get, are there any videos around showing how to replace the speakers on an RT? At a glance, it appears to be a monumental task. :dontknow:

Mike's setup (I think...), is not a drop-in replacement...
But I believe that J&M does have a setup that'll sit right where the OEM speakers were. and no cutting is required!

Well Thank You for your Courteous and informative Answer to my Dumb question. What the World needs is more Smart people like YOU.

:roflblack: Don't mind Mike. He really IS a good guy who knows a lot about how to make a Spyder better, and is [almost] always willing to help others. He just gets a little "pithy" at times. ;)

Here is a DIY thread from Finless with a video showing his J&M speaker installation. Mike says he basically used the same procedure to install his JBL's.

What type and year Spyder do you have? I have an entertainment harness off of my 2012 RT that I'm looking to sell. Then you could get a headset and then have the music play into your helmet. The entertainment harness has a plug for the driver and the passenger.

I don't even use the radio for this reason. I hate having to crank it up so loud to hear bits n pieces. I use my cell phone and listen to music with earbuds. My wife does the same, but she likes to use "I Heart Radio". To each his own I guess. I like my windshield down all the way for the breeze in my face (and so I don't have to look thru two plastics)

BUT NOT THE REARS ..............NOT ENTIRELY

Deanna777+ posted PICS for me on how to get 5.25" JBL's in the rear of any RT.........it's not difficult and very very worth it.....Mike

:yikes:.................Pithy.....my Patooty....:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:..........You are going to Spyderquest ....right !!!!......if so bring an MP-3 or I-pod with an adaptor that works with our RT unless it's 4 th Gen or less.....and you can test my system with your own tunes :yes::yes:..............to see if with the effort.......Mike

I found JBL's to have marginally better quality but no improvement on volume as tested with my sound meter. To get my radio so I could hear great quality and enough volume for my hearing at any speed I went with an amp and DC Gold speakers. This is a Cadillac system so not cheap but the end result is worth it. I have a set of JBL's sitting on my shelf that blew from too high of column after I installed the amp.

JBL's and HIGH POWER AMP

.:yikes:........You blew out the JBL's ....because you had them powered by a 300 WATT AMP.....Mine ( 4 X 5 1/4" ) are powered by the OEM which I doubt has more than 18 watts.....................I have had my RT up to 80 MPH and only needed the radio volume set to 63 % to hear it fine, crisp, clean, clear, with decent BASS ( they are only 5 1/4" after-all )....................Mike

Yeah, I'm coming to Spyderquest. Looking forward to meeting you there. And my iPod is always in the back. But it only plays C&W. Can your JBL's tolerate that? :D

BTW, HERE is the link for that thread you mentioned about pictures showing installation of speakers in the rear.
