• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Have watched a video on removing panels and Oil Change however both skipped where to put the oil in. Manual doesn't show it either. Maybe it is obvious when you got it open but I figured I would ask.

So where do you pour the oil in....do you need long neck funnel or anything special

Shawn Smoaks shows how in part two of his oil change video.

Here's the thing..!!

if you don't mention what ryde you have the answers are hard to come by. Where is your manual..??:hun: it has a wealth of information..but on the 998cc engines in goes in the same hole as the dip stick. Check your manual it shows you all this..

Actually, most of the videos out there and the factory shop manual are not that helpful for the v-twin. There was a video from 2009 by an RS owner that was most helpful as he showed the location and what the drain plugs and oil filter cover looked like. The manual would have you remove almost all the plastic panels on the left side but actually only the one covering the oil tank (where dip stick is located) and the plastic panel below and to the front of the oil tank are all that is needed to be removed. You can easily get to the oil filter from underneath.

Thanks George I was just getting ready to do mine this week. I hadn't seen the one from 2009.Where did you find it?

Best I saw on youtube.com for the oil change. One thing to add.... there is a metal retention washer on the bolt that holds the bottom plastic (underneath) panel. There are two bolts that are visible but you must loosen the the black panel under your oil tank panel and in the front under the black panel is a single bronze colored bolt with self keeping nut. For some reason Can-Am put a metal ring on the thread. The ring is soft and just larger than the bolt and it must be removed. I pried it off. There is no reason for this ring I could see. Again, it is on the 3rd bolt holding the bottom plastic panel. I could probably do an oil change in 20 minutes after the spyder is lifted and stabilized doing it this way.

Thank you for that information.Looks like lots of good stuff there. I am not sure however that those are the posts WiredGeorge was referring to.

I didn't see the series that were referred to. The fella who did the 2009 went through an entire service; was brief and took good video and was very clear. The whole thing only lasts a few minutes so it fits my attention span. Some of the videos I have seen sort of droned on and on about peripheral issues and these drone-a-thons make me itch. I probably don't get as much from the shop manual as I have pretty much lost my ability to read.... one or two lines and my brain glosses over. It may be the onset of geezerhood?
