• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. First 600 miles maintenance for ST LTD

If I am unable to book an appointment exactly at 600 miles, would it be acceptable to extend it to 700-800 miles, or would it void the warranty or cause problems? Just wondering, who came up with 600 miles as a magic number?

Thanks.

It's a reference number....

Somewhere around that number works. Have seen as little as 300 and as much as 1000. It does not have to be exact....but close is good +/-...

My dealer recommended closer to 1000

The dealer told me the closer to 1000 the better. He said they had better luck with adjustments around 1000 mile mark than the 600 mile mark on the 998 engine between then and the second service.

Can I be sure that this will not void the warranty?

It won't void your warrantee. And BRP goes by kilometres and 1000km converts to 600 miles.

Yes, I am aware that 600 miles = 1000 Km, but TexAmRider was referring to a 1000 miles mark, not Km. I am planning to do my maintanance at around 750-800 miles.

I know that. I was referring to your last sentence. I answered your main question with my first sentence.

:agree: when I had my 12 rt it was at 1000 before I was able to get it in. & no issues. They just don't want going in @3k

You are not going to hurt anything by not being right on the money. I had my 2011 first serviced at about 1500 miles. The dealer could not get me in for a week--so we did a little more riding. :roflblack::roflblack:

THE 600 MILE SERVICE PRICE

Took mine in at 850 miles. I asked the service mgr. (aka banker) how much the service would cost. He said around $500.00 and an oil change would be a little over $200.00. Gonna try to find another dealer for future service with lower cost. :yikes:

Find a new dealer! My first service was $242.00 INCLUDING the oil change.

stealers

ok i just posted this in ST service but saw this and thought it fit better and as i just got off the phone with the dealer an hour ago im still i shock...

So i am getting ready to change the oil for the first time on the used spyder i bought back in January. I just called the stealer and said how much for an oil change......He said $380!!!!!! i said, after i recovered from passing out, dude this is not a Ferrari!!! He said well we also check the belt, lights, zerk fittings whatever that is and test and reset buds and that it took 3 fricken hours? Is this what everyone else experiences? I have only been to this dealer on one other occasion to have them put on the baja ron bar and they charged me for 2 hours even though they called me and said it was done within 1 so i dont have a good feeling about them. Why do all dealers have to rape us? Just like all these oil change threads. 11$ a quart for crappy synthetic blend when i can get full synth castrol or valvoline for half? If services were reasonable i would take them all to the dealer i think they lose more than they gain. I have noticed with bikes and car dealers since vehicles dont require the constant maintenance they used to that they replaced actually services with "check check check" they wanted 500$ on my car for the 15,000 mile service and the only thing they actually did was change the oil and air filter and the rest was checks checks checks. I told them to pound sand and just change the oil. Obviously i am going to investigate how hard it is to do it myself on the spyder, i change oil on my yamaha in 20 minutes tops. Anyone see issue with running 10w40 or do i need to stick with 5w40? I already have some castrol full synthetic 10w40 i use on my sport bike. Sorry to rant but just got off the phone with them and still in shock lol
Thanks

Great posts yesterday....and I agree...if these Dealers charged reasonable prices, maybe they would get more business. I have a new ST-L. My intention is to have the first service done by the Dealer (because I thought it was the proper thing to do) and then I will do future oil changes and services myself. These prices are rediculous and vary widely from dealer to dealer.

QUESTION:

BESIDES THE OIL CHANGE, WHAT DOES THE FIRST SERVICE INCLUDE ? If it is just checks....most of us can do that.

Any ideas or list ?

UPDATE: NEW & SIMILAR POST WITH ANSWERS IN GENERAL POST SECTION.................

Thanks !
