North to Alaska Blog

Patti, I would post my photos but I have no idea how. Kind of like I have no idea where this post is going. I'm hoping to the right place. I finally found the North to Alaska blog or thread or whatever it's called. We are in Pincher Creek AB tonight and are supposed to ride into Glacier tomorrow but fires may prevent that. Right now the road to the sun is closed due to fires. If Patti, Karyl, or Ann know how to post my pictures, have at it.....technologically challenged

And the ? of the day is...

ARE WE STILL HAVING FUN ??? As Les posted...we are a day behind them. Had rain all day Monday to Watson Lake .. got up this morning it was raining lightly but said after yesterday even getting gaiters on..and off we headed. Rain, yea like downpour would be a better description. Stopped just before Muncho (sp) Lake for breakfast..I was soaked all the way through...found the problem. Mine new, great wonderful, perfect rain pants crotch seam had come "unwelded"...sitting in water for 2 1/2 hours did a good job of soaking me from stem to stern...so much for those gaiters keeping my feet dry!!! But no worries..we are still having fun. In the last couple days have seen 1 moose in pond; 3 bears...2 ran across road in front of us at diff times. One of those and today's bear are on the higher pay scale for entertaining tourists as they stayed out in open and faced us...posing for pics I'm sure but dang...to cold, to much rain. No pic. Saw 1 ptarmagin bird; some small rodent that decided to "go for it" and ran between Dave's spyder and trailer...when I saw him he was still upright and running like a bat out of hell!!! Today besides black bear saw LOTS and LOTS of bison..wow they are so dark (much like yesterdays cariboo)..must be the water!!! From Muncho Lake on the rain ramped up as did the construction..yep we found the worst road yet outside of Fort Nelson and the Spyders performed very well. I know without a doubt that Spyders would easily handle the Dalton Highway, after what we went over today the Dalton would feel like a freeway. Walked into motel, asked if they had washer/dryer..NOPE...he looked at me and said but I will gladly do your laundry if that would help...I looked not only like a drowned, freezing cold rat plus MUD COVERED. So I said you got it..and now I feel like I am staying at the Ritz...with my own personal laundry service. We all survived, altho cold, wet, dirty and the Spyders are wet and dirty...well except Roger & Linda's...their Spyder is all shiny white (darn that Roger for showing us lazy ones up..yep he was out there washing his off...but we are revoking his weatherman certification...as he promised us sunshine all day today!!!) Oh yea are we still having fun? You better believe it...just part of the adventure...tomorrow is a short ryde to Dawson Creek...after DC it will just be Dave, Joni and myself finishing out the adventure as we spend 3 days in Banff area...saw Robin and Tommy's facebook post of all the awesome scenery...Well I am about to have call this day done and go to bed.:yes::yes:

Karyl, I'm glad you got someone to do your laundry for you. We used the machines at Tatogga Lake on our return and once again I folded all the laundry that was in the dryers for the housekeeping staff. I'm jealous that you guys found the worst road yet, it sounds like fun!

Tell Roger and Linda so long and have a safe trip. I'm sure he will spend days cleaning the Spyder when he gets home.

Patti, I hope you get a good nights sleep and feel better tomorrow. Safe travels to all of you.

Sounds like you all had a great trip for the most part and I know you all have great memories of this adventure. Enjoyed all of your post. Thanks to all for taking us along.

FANTASTIC PICTURES. You have captured the trip to Alaska/Canada very well.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::firstplace::firstplace::firstplace::firstplace:

I take my hat (helmet) off to all of you who went on this trip. I sit at home imagining myself doing it on my Spyder then go out for a 4 hour ride & am b*ggered for the rest of the day.

However, I did just complete a 7 day tour of NY & PA so I'm not a total wimp.

Loved the pics, Fluffy. Been to all the places you guys went to but on 4 wheels. After we had been on the Cassiar hwy you could not see any of the paint color on the SUV & it took ages in a Watson Lake car wash to clean it up. Heaven knows what everyone's outer garments looked like after a day on a dirt/mud road in the rain.

You ALL deserve a medal!

Thanks for posting your pics, Robin (Fluffy). You and Tom do a great job with that little camera!

Karyl (MurphyBrown) emailed me this pic. It's her nominee for "worst road yet."

Isn't that a map of Minnesota: the "Land of 10,000 Lakes***"? :yikes:

*** which appears to be a conservative count: The State actually has 11,842 lakes, which are over 10 acres

Have fun in Banff Karyl, we will be up in radium the end of the month for a couple days, ride through Kootenay park and see Marble canyon, you can get some fantastic pics there. We are riding it from Radium to banff on Aug 1, soak in the hot springs and generally have fun! You planning on Deadwood next year, we moved our plans up and going next year.

My take on this "NTA" thing .......................................... Absolutely Great .............................You all have earned a big "HOWDY" X 10 :bowdown:

Cruzr Joe

(PS, remember .....one AH Sh** cancels ten Howdys.) :roflblack::roflblack:

Most Minnesotans tend to be on the conservative side. Except when talking about the fish they caught or the deer they bagged. :roflblack::roflblack:
