Potential RT Limited Newbie Too!

I have a dilema, I am a new member to this forum, and I have two options in front of me. Here they are; (2)two 2015 RT Limited's in white, and a 2012 RT Limited in white which are the most perfect color right?

I also have been working two local dealers and have a price on 2015 Spyder RT Limited for $27,000.00 from one dealer and a price of 26,000.00 for a 2015 RT Limited demo unit with 800 miles. A pricvate seller has a 2012 RT Limited in white for $16,000 with 3,500 miles

I have been riding motorcycles for 42 years. Moving to the three wheels and I have some questions. I currently own a 1997 Goldwing Aspencade in white which IS the most perfect color!

What should be my expectations for my initial demo ride between the two years? (I have a demo ride set up for this Saturday).

How long does it take to get comfortable for getting up to speed as I do with my bike now?

How difficult is the transition of the "push/pull" lean from riding a motorcycle to "turning like a snowmobile" on the Spyder?

Will I miss the deep leaning you get on a motorcycle in the twisties?

About the 2012 and the 2015 models.
I do know that one is a two cylinder and the others are three cylinders. Is the torque and power that much of a difference between the two? Why should I buy the 2015 over the 2012? Are the current 2012 owners happy with their purchase? Will I be looking to trade the 2012 for a 2015 after I purchase and get use to riding a three wheeler? Is the 2012 good enough for a new first time Can-Am owner?

Are there any recalls on the year(s) model?
Is the stock set up good enough for long distance riding two up? I am 6'3" tall, and my wife is 5'0" tall

Any input will helpful as I'm in the decision process to transition to 3 wheels very soon (in the next two weeks).
Thank You forum members!

:welcome: :2thumbs:

Do you have any ATV or snowmobile experience? They most closely approximate the feel of the Spyders.
The initial ride:
You'll either think that this is the BIGGEST mistake of your life... :yikes:
Or that it's pretty neat, and holds some distinct possibilities! :D
I can't address the issue of no longer leaning into the turns... I can tell you that I missed it; for about seven minutes! :roflblack:
Keep an open mind, and a loose grip on the bars.
Please let us know how it goes; Good Luck!

It,s a learning curve that takes some time.Al least it did for me.I was on a GL1800 before. The maintance is a lot less on the 1330 plus better fuel miliage. It,s your money buy what you really like. You will miss the leaning but on loose surface like gravel youl love the Spyder.

Unfortunately the demo ride may not show you much. I've been riding motorcycles for years, bought the Spyder and thought I'd made an AWFUL mistake.

300 miles later I decided I would never go back to 2 wheels. Turning is different, but you can't drop a Spyder.

If the $$$ is not in issue, go for the 2015 with the bigger motor and SE6 tranny. I am hearing great things from the 1330 engines. I love my 2012 limited and have not had any trouble with mine. I also hear from this forum that the 2012s are the best year for the 998 engines. I don't know about the 2015s, but my 2012 have a lot of power for me. I also rode a honda shadow before i got my :spyder:and i don't regret leaving the two wheeler behind. :ohyea::ohyea:

OK Got It!

Thanks for everyone's input on what to get. I have put a deposit down on a 2014 RT Limited with 9,500 miles. The dealer just traded the 2014 on a 2015 RTS Special Series that he sold to the PO. This 2014 is the one that he sold to me for an excellent price. See pictures;

Traded Up

I traded up from a 2011 RTL Pearl White to a 2014 RTL Pearl White and have not regretted it for a moment. I love the difference. You won't regret it. I also like your preferred choice of color (Pearl White) but your new ride is pretty awesome looking also. Enjoy the ride.

I traded in my 1500 Vulcan for a 2013 RT-S SE5 and have ridden about 200 miles mostly on the back roads. I definitely miss the feel and comfort of a 2 wheel ride. The main issue is the bouncing back and forth on crowing roads since they are mostly uneven and have wear from all the traffic. That being said I really enjoy the comfort of the seats and over all ride. I was having trouble with turns and lost confidence in being able to hold the heavy bike up. Glad I made the change now and looking forward to riding today in low 80's. My choice would have been the 2014 also. I rode a 2015 demo then bought the 2013 and wonder if I made a mistake. The open highway 70 mph ride is very smooth but engine sounds somewhat strained, looking for another gear. I could always trade up to a 2014!

Super nice; I really like the two-tone! I believe you made the best decision in getting the new engine and bike design.

Traded

I traded a 2012RTS-SE5 A/C I did not have any major issues , then I took a demo ride on a 2014RTS-SE6 WOW what a difference between the two, so I upgraded to a 2014RTS-SE6 Cognac, and I love it. It is like night/ day!

It has a lot of power( 1330 ACE engine, 6 speed transmission, low maintance, great gas mileage, shifting at a lower rpm, higher torque, less fill-ups) I think BRP hit the nail on the head with all the up grades that they did to the 2014RTS-SE6's and other models.

I like the color combination. Deanna

I had been riding bikes for about 10 years when I got my first Spyder (an RS). It was indeed a bit of a learning curve, but after about 250-300 miles on the Spyder, I absolutely fell in love with it and have no desire to go back to 2 wheels. Just today I picked up a '13 RT-S, and I couldn't be happier with it (well, okay, I will be happier once the heat issue recall work is done next week ;) ).

My two biggest tips for making the adjustment from 2 to 3 wheels:
1. Loose grip, relax. Don't fight the machine's tendency to track every little irregularity in the road surface, just relax and it will start to feel natural after awhile.
2. LEAN in the corners! Even though the machine itself doesn't, if YOU do, you will feel ever so much more stable in corners and can take them just as fast as you did on two wheels. (Also, it's a pretty bitchin' core workout to ride a Spyder, if you learn to lean fairly aggressively.)

Oh, and ENJOY!! :D

I couldn't agree more.

I took a ride yesterday and hit about 300 miles since I got the bike. I'll say it, I love my Spyder 2013 RT-S SE5 the new vents look great and heat does not seem to be an issue. Got a little hot in traffic and 90's but cleared up fast on the go.

I was afraid to hit the throttle hard like I did in my old bike but man when I did there was plenty of power and I am getting 33 mpg which is great considering how I was getting on it. The gear noise was annoying initially but now I like it and the pitching from side to side on back roads has become second nature and comfortable with the great seat even though it is stock.

Looking forward to riding again, it gets better each time, love the country roads of south jersey, horse manure and skunks.

Bellmawr... Have you ever seen the "Jersey Devil" in your neck of the woods? :D

I've got non-riding friends in Hadden Heights, Audubon, and Vineland...
